it doesnt mesh as well into the sandbox experience as the others do.
the individual anomalies wont change wether its questline or ambient but you'd get a more balanced occurance of anomalies (as they are divided into tiers which is directly connected to the monolith)
for an anomaly focused playthrough ambient lacks something - the reward of working through all its content.
I see, kinda interested to hear more about why you think so.
The only thing is that You´d have a 3x3 or something building on the map which You don´t use if You don´t want to. So it could block certain designs - but that´s about it. Like the anima tree is also at a fixed position on the map - but You never need to use it. But You could. Imho there´s little point in not using it. Also it adds the questline and the ending if You want to go for it. Even more so when You want to play centered around anomaly.
Experience the full horrific glory of it to get the optimal experience of it, then if you find you like the vibe of the new events you can pick ambient for future runs.
The monolith is just a building that sits around and does nothing. You research it for free, it upgrades to advanced research even. The only reason to turn it off would be if you want capturing entities to be mandatory as otherwise you can technically unlock everything in anomaly with just researching the monolith and no entity containment though more slowly. It doesn't impact the run much if at all itself, its just a box on the map that benefits you slightly and gives off a little bit of light. I truly, truly, do not understand the fixation on it.
and if you want to take it slow, don't use the anomaly start because the monolith will automatically activate when it is possible
