Pit/Underground mining feedback. Minor Anomaly spoilers
*spoilers ahead for Anomaly dlc*

Two quick pieces of feedback I want to give with the new Anomaly dlc.
When on advanced level research, at some point a pit will open up in your colony that you have to go into and deal with. However, in this pit are precious minerals you can mine (steel, machinery etc). 2 quick things.

First, the pit has a lifespan. Once you kill the fleshmass inside it, it will collapse and become un-enterable. So youll lose everything and everyone down there, and access to these minerals. Would be nice if we could somehow open it back up using a ritual or some such to get at those resources again.

Second, and finally, Mining down there is a tedious chore when it comes to hauling it back to your main colony. In order to mine something and get it back to a shelf/stockpile in your main colony you have to;
Select a Pawn and right click on the pit to send them down
Theyll arrive down in the pit drafted, so you have to turn that off.
The Pawn will then go over and mine or you have to prioritize.
Then when thats done, you have to manually right click the dropped resource, tell the Pawn to pick it up, and then right click the rope to exit the pit.
Once done, theyll head off to dump their inventory.

Im guessing this is because the pit works off of the same logic as going to another place on the map with a caravan or something, its a different area/zone so you cant just tell them to go there, mine and then come back.
While yes, you can take stuff into the pit and setup a colony down there (not recommended since it you know, itll collapse once you deal with the big down there) you still have to make sure they have whatever you want to bring back on them at the time.
So in summary, it would be nice to have some kinda special orders involving the pit for when it comes to resource extraction down there. Just to cut down on the micromanaging/tedium.

I'd like a pit thing you can harvest from too with some enhancements like you're asking for as well.

But, as you know and pointed out, you can do what you're asking for better by just forming a caravan and harvesting from another spot.

If you click the exit pit button doesn't it give you a caravan like option and let you pick up items?

You're not supposed to mine down there, so there's no reason to make it easier

Plus there's already a way to open it on command

I think its just the convenience. Dont have to load up a big caravan to do anything crazy and wait half a day or two unti you get where you need to go, just do it right inside your own colony.

The mechanics you're asking for are the same as loading up a caravan.

It didn't for me.

The first thing that pops up is that there are valuables down there.

Oh ♥♥♥♥, youre right.
What i do to make pawns leave the cave is right click the rope, but if you LEFT click the rope and select "climb to surface" it does indeed give the caravan interface to grab everything.
OK well my main complaint is gone lol.

I would strongly disagree with that. While yes, setting up a permanent base in the pit is a bad idea, cuz again it has a life span and you need to deal with it, you should absolutely mine any valuable resources you find down there. Like, its literally free steel/gold/machinery/jade whatever. no reason not to. sure if there are flesh guys coming after you maybe not, but when its calm to do so, you absolutely should.

While you can always summon another flesh pit, in order to keep a current one up just don't kill the Dreadmeld. Use the steel in the caves to wall it off instead, it isn't overly aggressive and will lose interest if it cant see a colonist for a bit.

I had a team of two gouls and two Sango's with chain shotguns clear the entire cave out (You get a notification when you get close to the Dreadmeld so avoid that area). then sent in my miners to clear some veins and a constructor to wall off the Dreadmeld.

Requires a bit of luck but its a fun challenge and well worth it for a metric ton of resources every 3 months when the ritual is off cooldown.

For the colapse Problem you can just avoid the boss down there. It will tell you when a colonist can hear it. The 5 Times i had a pit i was always 95% sure of the Location.
Also i only mine components down there if you have a ground scanner, it isnt worth it to go there for steel even if it would be more convient.
