Zoom out to the max. Make the whole map a stockpile zone. Select your colonist and right click on the stockpile zone and make him equip the weapon. Not sure if this works though, you might have to make it so that all items are allowed one the stockpile zone.

That doesn't work because in order to force your colonist to pick up something, you need to right click on the item, not on the stockpile.

Do you remember where your colonist was downed ? If so, and there nothing on the ground, is probably because the firearm was already bring back to a stockpile.

Sometime, players make unwanted stockpiles by mistake. To make sure your colonists don't have take the rifle on one that you missed, you can form a caravan in order to see if there your weapon.

However, if it happen outside of the "home" zone, the items your colonist was carrying are forbidden so they should be there.

If it isn't the case, i fear you just lost a rifle as it have been destroy in battle or by deterioring. But worried not, some will eventually come one way or a other.

Hope you will find it.:stars:

I'm not sure there's an easy way unfortunately. Here's an idea though: create a new stockpile zone or shelf and make it only take weapons, or even better make it only store the rifle the colonist had (be sure to set its priority to critical). Then go to all of your other storage/stockpiles and remove the weapon(s) from the allowed list.

After some time, your colonists should move the weapons to the new stockpile allowing you to more easily see the rifle. Well, in theory anyway. Hopefully that helps.

I don't suppose you happen to be playing on the unstable branch? (pre release patch 1.5), they added a search function.

He likely dropped his weapon where he was downed, and if you didn't manually check on him at that time his weapon will still lay there, forbidden.

If you didn't see where this was, go into Architect mode and right-click the "Unforbid" tool and unforbid all items, your haulers will find the weapon for you.

If you already know that you've hauled his weapon, what you could do instead is make a small stockpile zone, allow only ranged weapons - You can make the stockpile VERY specific by selecting only the exact weapon type, the allowed quality range of the item and even the item health. Set this stockpile priority to "critical".

Your haulers will move any items of those specifications from your other stockpiles it may lay hidden in and move it to the "critical" one since it holds highest priority.

If it isn't found, either your haulers are being lazy or the weapon has been taken and/or destroyed.

Ah yup. This is the answer. Completely forgot that the weapon can be marked as forbidden so undoing that is essential.

Has it rained since your colonist lost his rifle? If not, just look for blood splatters on the ground where he/she was when attacked and dropped the rifle. Also, it is possible one of your other colonists equipped themselves with the weapon, so look at each colonist's gear to see if that happened.

Make a caravan, by default it will be disabled for people to pick up when dropped.
They ignore that and take it to the caravan.
Another option would be to drag the allow command over the map and then set a storage area for that item alone and set it to critical

Might not help now. But to future proof it, there is a mod 'Where is my weapon' which gets the pawns to go and grab their weapon when theyve recovered from being downed.
EpicShoo Apr 10, 2024 @ 8:53am
Like others have mentioned, it might've been made forbidden when it dropped from the pawn being downed. I don't know if it's one of my mods, but there should be a button to unforbid everything on the map if you go to Architect -> Orders -> Allow everything. Also the RimSearch mod lets you search the entire map. That's what I use anyway.

Just look at the place he fainted, the weapon is either there forbidden, or in one of your stockpiles. If you wait for tomorrow (or go to unstable branch) you'll be in version 1.5 and 1.5 has a search function to look for specific items on the map.

If you want to do it on 1.4, you have to create a stockpile, give it high priority, only allow the item you want to find, and someone will haul it for you (unless it's forbidden, in which case, look where the pawn fainted)

Maybe it was down to it's last hitpoints and it faded away.

If it is a good weapon, some times raiders will steal it. You usually get a message like "The enemy has decided to steal what they can" or something like that. Though usually they would have stolen your downed pawn as well if that was the case.
