Secret Strat for killing Unnatural Corpse (dont tell the devs plz)
*minor anomaly spoilers*

Hello again.
Some of you may know me from my previous post/discovery about the Nociosphere, https://steamcommunity.com/app/294100/discussions/0/4356745682747104605/ , a particularly tough enemy that you might have issues dealing with. Well, I found another secret strat for dealing with an equally horrific enemy, the Unnatural Corpse.
This one was a real head-scratcher, due to how the corpse works. Once it arrives, you have a SET amount of time to study it in order to figure out how to beat it, as it is genuinely one of the toughest and arguably most terrifying enemies you can find in Anomaly.

Basically, it takes the form of a random Pawn and will remain "dead" for a while, but has a habit of teleporting around, usually nearer the pawn it looks like, which is why recommend burying it in a sarcophagus or grave since you'll get a notif if it escapes it, and after the aforementioned set amount of time, it will rise from the grave and soley chase after the colonist it looks like, completely naked and undefended. The kicker here is that it is extremely durable and gets progressively faster until it either dies, which takes CONSIDERABLE dps output, or reaches the pawn, upon touching them it will hypnotise them like the revenant before permanently killing them. Even the mech serum doesnt bring them back.

So, how do you stop this thing?. I took a few attempts, but the best thing I got was this. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3232713355

This will take a combination of quick thinking, microing and preparation, but the only safe space for a pawn at this point is in a 1x1 square, surrounded by some from of walls. I used limestone here but i dont think the material really matters too much, since the corpse did not attempt to break down the walls. Once inside, despite the fact the corpse can teleport but dont talk about it, the AI for the corpse will freak out and run around the area, presumably while its pathfinding tries to find a way to get inside, which it cant. All that's left its focus dps on it till it dies. It will take some time, but it can be done.
If you feel that this is stupid, exploity or cheesey, good. ♥♥♥♥ this corpse man. A nigh indestrucitble speed demon that has an instakill grab. Now THAT is cheesey.

It should be noted that I dont believe I finished my study of this corpse, which is why it might've been alot tougher to deal with. So make sure that once it arrives, you keep your eyes glued to its research timer so you can finish it time. I presume it will make this fight considerably easier.
Hopefully this helps you, good luck.

I...what ?

Instakill grab ? My unnatural corpses just lie around and do nothing

Study it and call it a day, I don't even know how this involves a fight

Oh boy, I sure do hope that youve studied that thing then, cuz trust me. It IS on a timer. I assume its different per corpse, but it WILL eventually attack. Unless you finish researching it and can kill it before then, im not sure, but still.

I think most people didn't have an issue with it because everyone is using the new ideologies, so people are playing with huge boosts to study.

If this is what it does it's probably going to terrify players using different ideologies in the future

I got the corpse from a quest (suspicios cargo) and a new colonist appeared with it starting death refusal research what i did was putting the colonist in a small room 1x3 next to my freezer and let the corpse in the freezer to study it until i got a message that i can savely destroy it seperating it might have done the trick so its close but it wont touch the colonist and triggger a "corpse teleport".
Helios Apr 26, 2024 @ 9:48am
You think its tied to researching death refusal? i had a obelisk to study at same time for advanced so that might have speed it up.

I've been using supremacist/human primacy on first playthrough, inhumanizer/human primacy on second. 100% research speed. First playthrough the corpse did absolutely nothing except teleport around. Second one I ignored it slightly more and it started to repeatedly down its targetted colonist so I studied it more.

Never had to fight it, never seen it injure or kill anyone so far

Is it something it does when you attack it ?

I had it too, I just studied it and found a way to safely destroy the corpse, so I didn't get this event either.

Could it be a random chance? A lot of stuff in RW may or may not happen to your game.

Then again, my character was a blind psycaster, but he had quite a few boosts to entity study so it didn't take too long

I studied it in time, but decided to see how hard it is to kill. And man, it was really hard, I've even got impression that corpse has some immunity to damage for some time, it took the damage that could've killed about 10 centipedes. I just run around with pawn that corpse wanted to kill while other colonists made rain of bullets into corpse. Also music after corpse awakens is so cool, to bad it is quite short.

I see, in that case, we can infer 2 things about the Unnatural corpse.
1: If you successfully study the corpse in time (which I sadly DID NOT do), you can safely destroy the corpse without the hostile encounter

2: If you FAIL to study the corpse in time (which I presumably did) it WILL after a set period of time, I am assuming its mostly random each time, rise up and attempt to kill the pawn it looks like.

So it would seem that if anyone gets the corpse, you need to get some boosts to researching, either through that darksight serum or various religions and such, to understand and permanently dispose of it, or take the quite challenging boss.
Upon its death, it dropped 1 Shard for me, so I assume you get one should you destroy it without the fight?

The timer could have RNG as well.

I found the nociosphere twice

First time I quickly studied it, and one after another the study results were progressing and quickly told me it was getting unstable, and I could no longer supress it, I had to find a target to dispose of it asap.

2nd time I got it, same deal as before, studied it and all, but it took a long time for this result to show up

I wonder if it's possible for it to charge up shortly after being captured, without the player's knowledge, and destroy his base, that thing is a real menace, I haven't tried, but I imagine it's harder than any max size raid from any faction in the game. A real boss encounter.

Funny you should mention the Nociosphere https://steamcommunity.com/app/294100/discussions/0/4356745682747104605/
Yeah Nociospheres incredibly dangerous, very easily capable of wiping out whole colonies with extremely potent attacks.
But they classes as mech enemies and do not adapt to emp damage. Meaning emp nades/launcher and a zeus hammer or some such can stunlock it forever.

Gotta wonder if that's a design oversight, or if it's the intended trick to deal with it

Also dropped a shard when destroyed during time in freezer i had some situations were it was butchered resulting in like 12 hours coma of the colonist^^

you cant rly fight that even if you sent it at an endgame raid it usualy forces the raid to retreat because of the big aoe and the 100% hit explosion not to mention the big pain aoe explosion.

When it comes to the Sphere, don't make the mistake I did: It will become unstable wether you study it or not. The only difference is, if you don't study it, you can't send it away.
