Pollution pump vs Wastepacks ?
I want to get rid of Wastepacks without dropping them somewhere else on the map.

Without the atomizer yet or the special waste tree i can only dump them on my own map and let the pollution spread.

There are pollution pumps but it says it will just clean up pollution and make it into wastepacks again.
Does that mean when i let 5 wastepacks deteriorate the pump will end up with 5 wastepacks again? Or will it reduce it in the long run?

You can drop them on your own map consequence free for years and years. If you really want to clean it all up you can still do it once you get the atomizers

Just get that vanilla expanded recycling mod so you can turn the wastepacks into chemfuel and other materials, also incl. non degradeable waste pack storage containers.

That or dump them somewhere at the end of your map.

Only downside is that the toxicity will slowly keep spreading and eventually you will need to clean it up. Oh and sick colonists if they stay too long in the zone.

Colonists have to stay in a pollution tile for quite awhile before it accumulates at all. They can safely travel through or even fight in the pollution with the worst case scenario being a 'I'm sick' mood debuff for a day or two.

Cleanup is also surprisingly easy. I just wall in the area and build 3~6 pollution pumps once I have atomizers like Veylox said. It takes a bit of time but it's no more difficult than waiting for a moisture pump to drain some mud for you.

If you can get a pollux seed or two while working towards Atomizers that can also eat A Lot of toxic waste for you. I know everyone says they're worthless, but early on they're very happy to just munch of toxic waste tiles.
