No dlc, quite a few mod but nothing too extravagant.
Game was saving properly but just crashed on exit.
I've tried the usual of trying to see what mods could cause this but at the end of the day, I've quickly gave up and put this on mods future proofing their stuff for the next dlc and causing funky stuff. If I had to guess a likely culprit I would say some "vanilla expanded" stuff that keep doing small update since dlc was announced.
Also, it only crashed when I tried to save and straight to OS whereas if I save to menu screen then quit the game it works fine.
I suggest you try that before going further to avoid unecessary hassle.
I moved one of the mods that has added sound effects higher in the modlist then the vanilla expanded mods (which also have added sounds) and the issue went away most of the time :)
It's just a fact that mods will do this at times.
When the game hangs again, Alt-Tab out and click the Stop button in steam, it will stop the game running.
P.S. check the size of the logfile , if not checked it can take a large chunk of your SSD memory, it can easily run into the gigabytes, you can safely delete the player.log .
This is not the only type of error that would cause the game to freeze on shut down, but it's a relatively well known one.
