You get like 3 packaged survival meals and some herbal medicine for destroying their base if you're lucky, plus all the loot you can scavenge of their bodies but that's pretty much it.
Destroying bases has no utility whatsoever. It won't reduce raids, it won't stop raids from their faction, at least not until you destroyed the very last base at which point they just disappear from the game entirely but until then it doesn't matter if they have 20 or 1 base.
Honestly bases are kind of a moot thing in the game. They don't really serve a purpose other than to function as trade hubs (if they are not hostile that is).
It's one of the more complained about features of this game. The whole world map was an afterthought really and has never been properly fleshed out. It kinda makes you think it is relevant with different base positions and factions surrounding you but nah ... that's just the illusion. It don't matter jack except for trade oppertunities using your caravans. That's the only thing you need to consider when choosing a place to build your colony in regards to bases and factions on the world map. literally, the only thing that matters (in vanilla).
Destroy a base also give your faction +20 in relationship with every other faction that is enemy with the faction that you just destroy a base.
Also, It can be a easy way to take some prisoners for whatever you want.
But yes, as The Blind One said, that not the most useful mechanic from the game. I hope developers will add some things to do with it later.
With the Set up camp mod I use nearby tiles to gather resources (like mining). This way where you start matters more (like mountains nearby for metals).
Rimworld is much better with mods.
Mods make this option better.
