(Advanced) Fabrication tech is ... kinda pointless?
As a position in the tech tree that is.

You have fabrication and immediately after that is advanced fabrication. I tend to just run through both of them as soon as they become available and it made me realize that (advanced) fabrication tech is just kinda ... there?

Like why do they follow each other up like that progression wise?

I feel regular fabrication would've made a bit more sense if it was earlier in the tech tree so you could make components yourself while all the late game tech like power armor remains locked behind advanced fabrication.

Regular fabrication unlocks all the items that require advanced components, a thing fabrication can't actually make, you'll need adv fabrication to make advanced components to make the stuff regular fabrication unlocks. It's honestly a weird place to have this tech in the tree.

Normal fabrication makes more sense if it was either before or right after microelectronics. It also allows players a bit more leeway with components as they'd be able to make their own sooner, not that it really matters because once you have the long range mineral scanner you can just get components through that (again more reason to put fabrication earlier honestly).

What do you guys think?

It's kinda very long way to a basic fabrication, and very short to advanced fabrication, yeah )
if there was an armor repair, most likely i'd prefer no adv.fab at all.

Fabrication is in a good spot in the tech tree. However it feels like Advanced fab needs something before it, and it should probably have an armor and weapon after it (marine armor moved to after advanced maybe).

I don't think moving them before or after the current place in their tree will help much. Part of the lack of components forces players to engage in trade or search on the world map.

The early game provides way too many components to actually make that a thing. There's free components in the rocks. free components falling from the sky. Traders have them in bulk. You can long range scan them for hundreds at a time before you can even make them yourself.

Right now, If you're ever making components, you're not doing it right.

Moving fabrication closer to the mid of the tech tree makes it actually situationally useful while not being overpowered since components take quite a bit of pawn time to make anyway. Like you'd rather have your pawns be making something else other than components. Anyway that's just my observation. I've never made components since I learned the long range mineral scanner trick. It's just too good. You can just send a duo of pawns with horses to get them. A miner with double drill arms and a competent guardian / medic. Send them out for a 4 day journey and they come back with ~120 components.

There are mods that add steps so it makes it difficult to rush tech
