Research books still need the required techprint/ signal chip, right?
There's nothing about it on google/ the wiki so I'll check here, even though I think I know the answer

To my understanding, there are no research books for mechtech, making it impossible to test that without someone adding them in via mods. I think it might be the same with any of the techprint research.

If they are obtainable, it'll likely work like anomaly research you haven't discovered yet: you can't gain research on it by reading the book until the research is unlocked.

I've gotten Wastepack Atomizer books. I have not actually ever checked if I got research from it.

I don't know about techprint requirements, but I know you can't unlock tech through reading a book if you don't have any pre-requisite technologies already unlocked.

That would lead me to believe that you would need the techprint as well, because the game code probably just checks for any and all pre-requisites. It seems unlikely they would require the one and not the other.

I was lucky enough to get the book as well. Here is what I found out.

The pawns can read it, progress is made on the research. Not sure yet if the full tech can be unlocked.

They absolutely do get research points in the tech. My guys have filled it up to 1/3rd so far.

Wastepack atomizer isn't a mechanitor tech strictly speaking according to the def, it's just a normal tech that requires the nano structuring chip to be analyzed and is dependent on a previous mechtech to be researched which is dependent on a mechanitor.

That's why you can get books on this tech but not the other mechtechs. It's not a mechanitor-only technology.

The real question is, what will happen when the bar fills up? Will the tech unlock without having a nanostructuring chip analyzed? Not that it would really matter because you couldn't build an atomizer anyway without a nano chip 🤣

My gut tells me it just unlocks,

It does indeed unlock with just the book, but you still need the nano structuring chip to build one.

Edit: Not sure if this is a bug or something else weird. It did also marks the other nano structuring chip research Ultra mechtech as available. I did need to research High Mechtech before I could start the Ultra mechtech research, but I am now researching it without even ever seeing the nano structuring chip.

Huh that is interesting.
