Why do people cremate corpses ?
You can feed pigs, u can feed harbinger trees.
Or you can just dump ot somewhere in the corner and let it rot outdoor pretty fast.

Why the hassle with cremation ? We are not playing 1.1 version, corpses do not contribute a lot to wealth.

Cremation saves on the tps as that eliminates the pawn off the game entirely. Also its adding to the map s wealth and i dont want random useless crap in my place either . Plus it tends to stink and make people feel bad.

I'm using harbinger trees in my current playthrough, but even still I have a crematorium set up. There's an event that causes corpses on the map to rise from the dead...that's an incentive to cremate them as far as I'm concerned. My crematorium is powered off unless that event comes up though.

It's just as easy to just get rid of them and not have to waste the space on an enclosed area with a door. It's not like cremation takes a bunch of time.

So what do you do with other corpses in the meantime? Because any corpse on the map that isn't in the enclosed tree area can still resurrect over and over again (for example if a animal is killed during this time). Or do you hide in your base every time it happens? :P

I don't usually keep animals, I don't have Anomaly, and I believe this is modded but the bill automatically strips all the smeltables off the body while burning the burnables, which is less manual work than marking things to strip myself. It's also a more respectful way to deal with bodies, at least to me.

Corpses don't just pop up when the event starts, it takes time before they are raised. Cremating them is faster than the time it takes unless you have a ton of corpses all at once. In which case transporting them to some storage location takes almost as much time as just cremating them on the spot.

I gather most avaliable corpses to harbinger tree and enclose area.
This event is super rare anyway.

I usually zone out my colonists from the recently killed raiders until my dog army finishes hauling them off, either to a water source if there's one nearby or to a closed corpse-burning room that I'd toss a molotov once and call it a day.

Because some people would rather use a crematorium. Not everyone raises pigs or even animals. Not everyone bothers with the harbinger trees or even has the DLC. I use crematoriums because I just like the idea of having one. Not everyone wants to play the game in the most optimized way possible. It's kinda like how you can fill a room up entirely with shelves and not have any room in between for pawns to walk and it'll work just fine, but I'd rather have walkways in between the shelves; or how I'll build rooms that are not exactly space efficient just because they look more interesting. Plus there is some value in having a crematorium next to a killbox or otherwise near a place that corpses are likely to pile up at that your pawns can quickly take corpses to dispose of.

I have the bodies moved into a pile and then throw some molotovs on them, gets rid of them nice and quick

Deathpall reanimates the dead. so all human and rotten animals get cremated.

Event isn't that rare and can be completely countered by keeping corpses cleaned up.

Rot stink and rotting corpses themselves also cause debuffs and health problems.

Like you said, it isn't 1.1, and now we have rot stink. Plus why keep pigs when you can keep chickens? Much easier, don't even have to slaughter, just have haulers grab stacks of eggs in between throwing raiders in the fire.
Mati_Lublin May 27, 2024 @ 10:36am
As others said: not everyone has omnivore/carnivore livestock, not everyone is cannibal or even uses "human resources" in kibble/fuel production, harby trees require having DLC (and this may backfire with death pall because why not, it's Ribault Rimworld) and can pop up far away so hauling takes time. That said, I prefer makeshift pyre than regular crematorium.

Dont have pigs. And i dont always go anomaly
