Any possibility of porting PlayStation Trophies to Steam Achievements?
There are a LOT of reasons to add achievements:

1) Most obviously, the little dopamine hit you get when the achievement pops up.

2) They suggest areas of play that you might not have known about. "There's an achievement for beekeeping? I didn't know that beekeeping was a thing in this game; I'll have to look into that."

3) They tell me what story milestones my friends have reached, so I know what parts of the game I can bring up when we're talking without worrying about spoilers.

4) They bring new games to my attention. I've lost track of how many games I'd never heard of until I'd seen friends getting achievements for them, so I checked the game out, and ended up buying and loving it.

5) From a dev perspective, they can give useful metrics. "90% of the users have the 'Finished Chapter 2' achievement, but only 30% have the 'Finished Chapter 3' one. What's going on in chapter 3 that's causing users to stop playing?"

6) Achievements don’t “tell players how they have to play the game”. People who don’t like achievements will ignore them if you have them, but not having them means you’re telling people who DO like achievements that they can’t play the game the way THEY want to.

Yes, implementing achievements takes developer time away from whatever else they could be working on, but that's true of any feature. I play most shooters as single-player games, but I'm not going to gripe about the time that devs spend putting a battle royale multiplayer mode in the game. It's not my thing, but other people like it, and if it gives the devs more sales/money then that incentivizes them to keep putting other features in the game.

Nope, Tynan rejects achievements because they're an external pressure on how the run's story plays out.

Tynan has specifically stated that he doesn't want achievements in the game, mainly due to his opinion differing on your 6th point. Here's his exact quote:

"Here's the design rationale: The experience of RimWorld isn't really supposed to be about fighting and winning against the game. It's not a competition or skill-test, primarily. It's about story experience. Achievements get in the way of that by focusing people's attention on some arbitrary task. I'd rather people set their own goals and experience the story as it emerges."

Achievements are required for every playstation/xbox console game as far as I'm aware, which is probably the only reason they have them.

There is a mod called Vanilla Achievements Expanded you can look into if you want that experience, though obviously it wouldn't reflect on your account.

His "I'm ethically opposed to achievements" position rings hollow when you put it next to his "...but I want that sweet console money" actions, and his "I don't want to set goals for people and tell them what they have to do" statements are counter to literally every game with a tech tree where you have to jump through certain hoops to get the later abilities. Just hoping he'll re-think his position.

Achievement earned: Ask about achievements for Rimworld

Achievement earned: Give opinion on why Tynan's stance/opinions on the game he developed is incorrect

Achievement earned: Call the developer greedy

Playstation & Xbox Achievements only exist because its required to have a game on their platforms. Tynan is fully against adding achievements and has stated several times that they will never be added.
