RimWorld
RAM usage very high
Hi!
I have noticed, that the game consumes more than 24gb of Ram. I have installed only 32 GB, so after a while of playing I notice stutters from time to time, often for over 2 seconds.
And when I save and return to main menu, it takes very long and shows a grey screen with the mouse cursor barely moveable during that.
My game is completely unmodded, I haven´t ever installed a mod. I have all 3 dlcs.
I am quite new to rimworld and now I would like to ask, if it is a normal behavior to use so much ram or if this is just an issue that I have.

Ya no game settings or gameplay decision is going to make the game use that much memory. You can pick a dev mode size 400x400 map on a 100% globe and play for decades with hundreds of colonists and it's not going to use more than like 2-4gb of memory.

There are multiple mods that cause severe memory bloat, possibly only when used in specific combinations. It's a "common" mod problem and this thread pops up fairly frequently, but nobody ever clarifies which mods were causing it for them so I can't really help beyond saying: It's your mods.

It's not "number of mods" either. I tend to play with around 100-200 mods and that still doesn't go above 3gb. Individual mods are tiny, things like art and added items shouldn't contribute anything noticeable to memory size unless the mod is doing something wrong. The issue baffles me honestly and I'd love to know what exactly is going so bonkers to eat through dozens of gigabytes of memory without almost instantly crashing.

Considering he says he's playing unmodded. This is honestly a very strange situation. Somethig else must be going on.

Wait are you on windows or another platform? Maybe it has to do with the platform and there's a memory leak on the mac version or something idk ... but I never seen ram bloat this bad especially not for a vanilla game. Or perhaps the RAM itself is disfunctional?
I somehow misread that line as something along the lines of "I reinstalled all my mods." >_>

Ya this is I think the first time I've heard anyone mention having this issue without mods, so my brain apparently rearranged words to fit my expectation of it being mods. If there is an issue that can somehow cause this to happen even without mods then perhaps some of the people who have been playing modded and ran into this, may not have had mods to blame afterall.

Might be worth contacting Ludeon support if you are truly unmodded, they might have some idea on what could cause it. My only guess would be some sort of software conflict maybe, like AV.
I am on Windows. I will contact Ludeon Support, let's see what they will suggest. As a short summary of my issue: no mods, starting the game: memory consumption is as you all say about 2 gb, playing for some hours (4-5): 24gb ram is used. No crashes so far, but perhaps that would occur, if I played longer.
i have the same issue without mod, and the game is the problem, i have search the last stable version, and i found 1.3.3101 are stable, dont use more than 2Go of memory. I have talk with this issue on the ludeon discord, but they dont want ear the game has a problem

I have submitted the ticket to Ludeon Support Forum too and still haven´t got an answer. Thank you for your reply, now I know that it is not an issue of my computer. Let´s hope 1.5 will fix it.
enable dev mode and try checking the logs, usually when ram shoots up its an error that repeats infinetly causing a memory leak. Usually happens when people are playing incompatible mods or pathing issues.
I have disabled dev-mode and I don´t use nor did I ever use any mod.
I would like to play the game as it is, I am still beginner and there is still a lot to learn and explore for me.

You could link the save and someone can look at it with devmode on and check the logs, its the easiest way to see whats causing the memory leak
i have search during maybe 2 years to find a solution or a bypass against that. The only thing ive found its a stable version of the game before there have his memory leak.

Oh by the way, I work in QA, i hope the stable version 1.3.3101 can help for continue of playing
number of pawn doesnt affect, number of animals doesnt affect, gobal map size and colony size doesnt affect
time speed affect, if you get 8Go in 2 hours in speed x1, you get 8Go in maybe 30 minuts in speed x3
So then the question is what systems does it affect and what do they have in common because most folks don't have it.
i dont know, a local bug are complex, maybe a problem with certain componant like AMD or Nvidia graphic cards, or other
