Question about Prepare Carefully
Is there a way to change the Xenotype of a character without having to rerole it with the new Xenotype?
Made a character and realized I wanted other genes, but can't seem to change it.

I think a lot of people have moved on to using Character Editor. Prepare Carefully does some funny stuff in the background apparently.

You shouldn't be using prepare carefully with biotech,

I used to need prepare carefully but at this point its just broken with everything. Just use Character Editor, I hated Character Editor for a while but now that im used to it, its fine.

I still like PrepCarefully more than CharEditor, but until PC is fixed, CE is the only safe choice. And sadly it doesn't look like PC will be fixed.

I used to be all about Prepare Carefully, but ever since 1.4 I moved to Character Editor due to all the problems Prepare Carefully seemed to cause. I actually much prefer Character Editor now that I've learned all the ins and outs of it

I still use prepare carefully just due to having saved pawns, and its more convenient for starting a save with than character editor imo.

I use character editor AFTER spawning in on my tile with my setup. havent noticed any issues but granted I dont use DLC and 90% of my 100-200 mods are visual or QOL things that dont dramatically change the entire game.

Do not use Prepare Carefully whatsoever. Just use Character Editor.

With Character Editor yes you can change genes or xenotypes without rerolling the character. You can also accomplish the same thing using dev mode once you get into the game. I would not suggest using Prepare Carefully regardless as it can and will brick your save. You might not notice or care about all the issues it causes, depending on your modlist and how long you play, but PC is doing very bad things to your game these days and can cause significant issues with various mods because of it.

You can also just change genes with dev mode.

why not? Ive done 3 100+ hour colonies with it since character editor became the norm and have had zero issues.

It's "blacklisted" in Troubleshooting on RW unofficial discord https://discord.com/channels/214523379766525963/1020009037510746212/1020009037510746212. I mean if it's working for you that's great, but those guys really know what they're talking about.

Prepare Carefully is incompatible with Biotech, and barely works with anything else that adds new parts or pawn types.

Stop using Prepare Carefully - start using Character Editor. Get used to it's interface, it is well worth it for it's greater capabilities and compatibility.

Same here. In fact, I use both.... and Biotech. I have never had a bricked save. I have no idea what these guys are talking about.

Then you have never used it with xenotypes or germline genes because it will break any colonist that has those that was edited with PC.
