Not really.
I mean i guess you can call setting schedules, allowed zones, work priorities and stuff "programming" your pawns.
But nothing in code/script or anything like that (in game that is, you can always play around with the games code and make mods).
Its admittedly subjective, but i'd say the game has many cool features (especially with the DLC's).
researching in this game is absolutely vital while simultaneously challenging.
Researching sends you from neolithic to advanced technologies and its crucial, and can be difficult and you must prioritize with future planning and immediate needs.
Guns are great but maybe plate armor would be a better first choice. and many more.
economic techs, military, specialized techs like mech tech, gene labs and more
I've got more than 2000 hours in this game. I've never won. I think I was close once or twice. Doesn't matter. Love this stupid game. Nothing else quite like it either.
- base game only occasionally goes on sale and for 20% at that, despite it being ten years old. DLCs get 10% sale regardless of age.
-base game only gets incremental, not massive updates.
-Anomaly DLC isn’t for everyone.
-Pawn AI can be frustrating
I probably missed a few, but that’s the general complaints I see in discussions.
Most likely, but keep in mind that we don't actually have the details on the DLC yet.
While i do admittedly find it unlikely, there might be some stuff in there that would improve any playthrough even if you don't touch the horror stuff.
Rimpy I feel at this point is necessary for bigger modded playthroughs since it sorts it all pretty well without having to use a massive mod order guide and spend 30 minutes to an hour sorting.
As for mods there are a lot of mechanics I love that exist in mods that just don't exist in Rimworld. Stuff like genetic engineering, implanting parasite to harvest from prisoners, weapons that behave mechanically different from base game weapons, enhancement and overhaul of base game mechanics.
So what I'm saying is this game has as many cool features as you allow as long as you're willing to pull up the workshop. That said base game is a solid. I like to run a vanilla save every version update.
So you would definitely need mods for this and I'm not sure there even are any.
