Traders not coming.
So its been 3 years, nearly 4 without any traders coming to my settlement. Out of curiosity I went into the debug action menu, opened up the "Do Incident" menu to spawn a trader, but there is a [NO] next to the "TradeCaravanArrival" option. Also when I activate the option, nothing happens. This leaves me to believe that the trade caravans have been turned off somehow. Am I wrong about this? If not is there as way to turn it back on, or does anyone know how it got turned off in the first place? Thanks.

Hmm, I'm not expert about how the game works, how things are coded, and what can do what. I think storytellers can have an effect but I don't know if any outright turn it off, at the same time, I don't know if maybe a mod is doing something stupid. Only thing that comes to mind is a scenario where it can be set where certain events never happen or happen every X interval in days. Personally, I got tired of the RNG so I have it set where I get an orbital trader every 5 days and a quest every 3 days, not sure if that overrides a storyteller or if you get that in conjunction with a storyteller, but unfortunately that is something you have to set at the beginning. Maybe it can be edited into the save file? I wouldn't know the line for that, but maybe make a scenario with those parameters and then check that save to find the code and copy it over?

First guess is there's no faction that runs caravans currently friendly towards you. Try making your own caravans, going to nearby settlements, and gifting stuff to them until they are.

Oh yeah I suppose thats an important thing to differentiate. Are you talking about caravans or orbital traders? Because I also notice that caravans tend to go out the window after enough time passes. Don't think I've ever had them turned off, but I also don't go pick fights with everyone around me XD.

Caravans. I was getting them pretty regularly before and then they just stopped. Even with the game's RNG the "TradeCaravanArrival" option should force the game to spawn one, so I figured something else has to be causing it, unless the game just shuts them off after a while like you said, altough thats the first IO'm ever hearing of that feature.

Well, I don't think it shuts them off. I usually stop getting them, that much is true, in favor of orbital traders, but I can always go to the comms console and request a trade caravan from allies. Like Razor said, you might just be hostile with everyone? If not then I really don't know tbh.

I am allied with two of the factions on my world and neutral with the other two. The only enemies my colony has are mechanoids and pirates. I get semi frequent caravans from all the factions and I often send caravans (via shuttle) to their settlements to trade. I do pretty much every outpost quest I get given. The end result is that everyone loves my faction (except pirates and skynet) and even like 7 in game years in I still get caravans as well as orbital traders. What's your standing with the factions?

1 friend, 3 neutral, 4 hostile.

I don't think it really matters. Even if you're friends with everyone, that doesn't make it so you get more traders. You may think you'll get less attacks, but it's actually not the case. You'll just get more pirates or machines. The only thing it means is you can call for relief when you're under attack from more people. It doesn't change how many trade caravans you get.

Thats more factions than I have... are you playing with mods that add more/royalty?

Yeah you need to fulfil more special trade requests/faction missions set by the neutral colonies if you want them to send caravans more often PLUS you can also spend goodwill with them if they are allied to force send extra caravans. I also reccomend loading transport pods with gifts and sending them out to improve relationships.

For anyone who comes into this looking for an answer, it turns out that the Hospitality mod was screwing something up. As long as guests can come into my settlement, traders would not for some reason. But once I got rid of my guest beds and turned away all visitors, traders began coming back. So for whatever reason, having guests come into my settlement prevented any traders from coming as well.

Thanks for the update. I’ve noticed oddly long caravan dry spells using Hospitality. Maybe it’s the result of the other factions being hostile to each other and not showing up when you’re hosting their enemies (but not generating message for the caravan)?

Did you get a reply from the mod dev?

Well, I play with hospitality, too - but still get trading caravans occasionally. I'm not 100% sure, but I think I had some come in even when I had guests.

I wish there was a mod that allowed us to broker peace talks between factions. I mean, fulfilling trade requests for armor and guns so they can kill each other is lucrative, but what if I don't want to do that for a change???

I think I might have had that as a quest once, but it was a while back. I wouldn’t mind it as a mod, either. Actually what I’d like to do is host the peace talks or other events, kind of like hosting for the empire.

Now that there’s options like “meditation” on the schedule it seems like you could have options for mediation or throw a banquet or something.
