Default medicine (and food)?
There isn't any way you can set default medicine type for random crashlanders you rescue (guests, I guess), is there? I feel I should have found it by now if there is, but I thought I'd check.

Early on, when I don't have much industrial medicine, it's fine that it uses herbal, but later on it'd be nice to have industrial as the default (I often set my colonist to rescue someone and then I get busy with something so I forget to change it before they've been treated).
Not much point in rescuing them if they die of an infection that better medicine might have cured.

I've also noticed that my paramedic mech can be a bit odd about which food it gives new patients right after they've arrived. Sometimes it even gives them kibble, which admittedly is pretty funny, but other times it gives them survival meals, and I tend to want to keep those for caravans.
Don't know if it just grabs whatever is nearest, but I don't think so (I usually have a fridge with meals in my hospital).

There is, it can be hard to find though. Should be a defaults button in the health tab I believe. Can't open the game atm to be more specific

Food is handled in the same menu as outfits and drugs. Starvation overrides these though.

ah, thanks. I'll see if guests with no faction count as 'neutral faction'. Probably do.

It doesn't seem like you can set those for people you haven't met yet, so to speak.
But it's really only a problem in the early game before I can make survival meals, anyway (the kibble thing doesn't happen too often).

You can with a bit of cleverness. It always defaults to the top one, lavish, so just change the top one to a default for say prisoners/visitors. Just use a different slot for your colonists

Can confirm. :-)
I normally have my first food selection for 'new recruits', where it does Simple Meals and Pemmican (the latter is stored on a shelf in the prison), and then have other food options for 'Colonists', 'Cannibals', etc.
This mod is pretty helpful for not having to re-make these sorts of things by hand each time: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2878346181

Yep! It's definitely there.
I like to set colonists as Herbal Medicine, because I can always adjust that manually later so we don't run out of the best medicines, and set colony animals as No Medicine (then edit individual animals, so that my dogs get treated but my ducks/chickens aren't consuming all the medicine if they get sick.)

ooh. Now I feel like I should have figured that out, since prisoners getting lavish food, but herbal medicine as default has always puzzled me.
Thanks.

Thanks. I might try that. Sometimes I come up with something fancy in one game and can't remember how I did it in the next.
I couple the above solution with Better Pawn Control which allows me to set defaults for colonists, prisoners, and slaves. That way new recruits are instantly set to my colony's default food, drugs, and clothing policy without having to manually adjust them from the topmost guest/prisoner food policy (which is always simple meals, nutrient paste, and pemmican).
