Prisoners and Children
My current game, I'm playing under strict rules regarding colonist acceptance. There are no marriages or "lovin" allowed, and the only way I can add people to my colony is to imprison females, extract their ova and then fertilize and re-implant it. The problem comes from me restricting who can join as a colonist, they have to have specific genes.

If a child is born to one of my prisoners, and they don't have the genes, I'm not adopting them. This causes problems because they become abandoned if I sell their mother, or she dies in some form or fashion (core ripping, prison break death, etc). Then my colonists won't feed them, and they then die causing that lovely -20 mood penalty to the father.

Growth vats aren't allowed, mothers won't breastfeed if they're prisoners, setting up cribs in the prison doesn't work, and none of the other potential solutions I've come up with will work given my own set of rules and Ideology.

Anyone have suggestions? I could devmode and remove the relationship, then let nature take its course. This just seems a bit cheesy and I'd prefer not to "cheat" a solution if someone has something that will work around this issue.

You never did mention just making babyfood, just a lot of attempts a breast feeding. I assume you tried that? Very very strange set of rules, hopefully someone can help you though.

Yeah. They eat for the first couple quadrums, kid time, and then my colonists stop feeding them and they die from starvation.

Weird, wonder how differently it would work if you enslaved them for this instead of prisoners. What inspired this anyway? Some sort of book or something? Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through.

Enslaving them would make it easier, since you make that decision at Age 3 when they become children instead of babies. So you'd have to adopt them all, then decide from there. I think slaves can breastfeed and otherwise take care of kids as well. That's my next run though. Single colonist vegan sanguophage with all slaves for labor. Should be fun.

Inspiration though. A bit of Dune with the way the Tleilaxu turn their females into living wombs to make their drugs, Wanting a slow game so I could do some other things messing around with mechs and genes, which it's turning out to be a helluva lot slower than anticipated, and generally just wanting a tougher game without turning up the actual difficulty.

It wouldn't be quite so irritating, but my female colonists have to get the Strong Shooting genes, and the males have to get the Strong Melee. Both also have to get Great Crafting, Medical, or positive Beauty genes. Only problem there is you don't know the gender of the colonist until they are born. LOT of really nice pawns who didn't have the right weapon skill for their gender.

In hindsight, restrictions are fun, but they become a bit frustrating when you do stupid things. 10 years in though, so not giving up on this run. Have 9 of the 12 colonists I want (5 in the past 2 years!), just getting a little irritated with having to cycle moods/births at this point and hoping someone might have a solution.
