For bases located on terrain with decent vegetation (temperate forest biomes, for example), bring molotovs. Light the base, or the ground around the base, afire. After all, it is their turn.

Might want to consider bringing a rocket launcher or two as well; the ~$1.3k silver pricetag is well worth it if you can disable/kill 5-10 pawns with a single attack.

As far as just the basics of getting there goes, make sure your caravan has plenty of medicine, and maybe even the components needed to build critical replacement body parts on the spot in case someone takes a serious injury. Probably not necessary, but you never know. If you're running a game with maximum colonies set above 1, you might consider settling outposts every so often so you can farm the land and resupply without having to return home or spend resources on a fleet of droppods.

what kind of weapons should i bring? i do have royalty
I haven't done a great deal of raiding myself, but when I have raided I've run into something like 10-15 enemy pawns. With that many enemies, you're bound to see some melee types, as well as some snipers, so I'd say come prepared to deal with that.

A good melee weapon or two with a shield belt would probably be smart. You can bring frag grenades and just choose not to use them unless the terrain allows you to properly bottleneck the opposing force; frag grenades are a pretty powerful option to have available to you. I wouldn't use them with more than 1 pawn, but they're definitely worth consideration.

High quality assault rifles and heavy SMG's are pretty good choices. If you haul a battery (and maybe the parts for a solar generator to keep it charged) along with you, you might even deploy mini-turrets once you arrive. If you bring some cloth along, you can set up sandbags for them and your colonists as well.

Any sort of advantage you can get that will let you even up the odds early in the fight will help though. Just play to your strengths and don't get cocky. Silver is pretty easy to make in this game, replacing good colonists is much more difficult. Buy tools, use them. :)

Edit: Oh, and the artifact shock lance and insanity lances might be good things to carry along in case you need to disable a particularly dangerous opponent.

so should i use the charge weapons or smgs and rifles? also what about miniguns?
Eh, whatever works for you. I do like having a pawn use high quality charge lances when they're available. Pretty solid weapons. Charge rifles aren't bad either. I'm not a huge fan of miniguns due to the low accuracy, but whatever floats your boat.

High accuracy, high dps weapons will make short work of camps and cities. I prefer assault rifles for the little bit of extra range but charge rifles are fine too. Target people outside of cover and focus fire down targets as they come into range.

An orbital targeting laser beacon or similar weapon of mass destruction can instantly destroy an enemy base if you target the center.

A powerful psychic unit with a good melee weapon can kill everyone in an enemy base by themselves. Just walk in, go invisible, and begin the carnage.

In general raiding isn't difficult. Pirate bases tend to have a unit or two in power armor, so if you would have trouble with them bring a psychic shock lance or two to specifically deal with them.

Worst case scenario you can just leave and come back with a better plan and more guns if you get overwhelmed or otherwise pushed back too hard.

Another strategy is to bring plenty of wood and build some simple barricades once you arrive. Now place all your pawns behind your fire-wall and lure the defenders to storm your position by sending out snipers to shoot at them from a long distance first.

As soon as they start their assault they arrive one by one and can be simply taken out by concentrated fire.

one warning though: you will still get raided by mechanoids, in fact, expect more mechanoid raids than usual. they've ended my playthroughs a few too many times, so don't let your guard down

How Raid like a PRO:

1) Train pack animals, Muffalos are the best option due damage output, carry capacity and tame level.

2) Build power generator and turrets. Get combustible for the generator and ammo for the turrets.

3) Once the pack animals are fully trained, Gather your animal tamer, best miner and doctor.

4) Winter add slow and not let animals graze but, if you have plenty of animal food it's ok.

5) Once you're already in the enemy base, pick the best defense position and start to build barricades for the turrets. Install power generator in safe position (if able) and install turrets close of it or just build power conduits.

6)The mechanism is quite simple, the turrets gonna kill enemies, you reload and repeat.

mechanoids are part of their own independent faction, and will still raid regardless of who is allied
