Sea ice problems
Hi, I've survived 60 days on sea ice and i have almost zero economy progress. I build 4 hydroponics and even with that people are starving. Scenario: 3 cannibal crash landed, randy mercilles. Any tips to get more money for metal or food?

If you have three cannibals, then surely you can butcher human corpses?

One man attacking per few days its not too many. Its good idea to buy some wood for sculptures or bow making ?

Wood is for fire, it's fuel. You can make doors and beds from steel. Steel is actually preferable to wood when it comes to door, they have the same speed.

I'm not sure how on earth you're getting "one man raids" for an entire year. You should be getting two or three already. What about manhunter packs?

As for hydroponics, build your base near a geyser. Wall it up, and use the heat from it to heat up your home. When you've researched geothermal, you're good for power.

You should also be getting guns from dead raiders.

Manhunt packs are sick with scaria, and i dont have geyser on map. Im smelting enemy weapons for metal but its not too many.

Hey I still kinda new to this game and have heard about sea ice and extreme desert runs. How do raids work in these biomes? Do most raids end because they froze/overheated? Also people almost always talk about sea ice. Is extreme desert much easier?

On sea ice you have nothing to farm, plant, hunt and mine, hare spawns 5-10 days. All are based on scenario happening. Temperature almost all time is - 40C and enemies spawn with parque and cant die from cold

Are none of your colonists capable of mining? Surely there should be SOME hills on the map. There should be enough metal for making hydroponics.

I haven't tried extreme desert but IMO, sea ice is the more difficult one. Heating yourself and growing food is a real big problem. With extreme desert, you can actually handle the heat fine if you've got a duster+hat. You can also grow stuff in the desert, albeit slowly.

Raiders usually come with parkas and tuques.

It's a sea ice challenge, there's not really hills or geysers or anything, no.

Maybe try forming a caravan and creating a secondary colony for mining/logging

ive seen people do sea ice with 1 person before so its less mouths to feed.
if 1 of ur people dies u could eat them :p

Steel doors are slower than wooden doors. Wooden have 120% speed while steel have 100%.
Wood and steel autodoors have the same speed (wood still has a 120% multiplier but both open fast enough to not slow down pawns), but not regular doors.

Starvation is likely not the biggest issue, as colonists can survive for ~10 days before they fully succumb to starvation and die.

You need 6 tiles of hydroponics (1.5 basins) growing rice and being cooked into meals to feed each colonist, so you're 1 hydroponic basin away from having a stable food source.

Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, you can still use a deep drill on sea ice, so you can mine for stone using that. Stone lets you build art and furniture to sell.

As for slow economic progress, that's just sort of how sea ice goes. In my opinion it's not actually much harder than a normal playthrough, it's just slower. There's less to do and a lot of time will be spent waiting for events so that you can get new resources to do things with.

Already discover deep drill and cant use that on ice. I've got now 6 hydroponic basins and its fine to fed 3 colonist, 2 huskys and 1 bison(human meat helps a lot) . Food problem are resolved but like you said, game is slow. In my opinion hard was early game now all is fine

Have you had any meteors land on the map yet? If so, I think deep drilling has the possibility of working on that spot afterwards.

Ah my mistake then with the doors, had them mixed up with autodoors.

@gumsky Get a long range mineral scanner. The resouces aren't anything to scoff at.
