Bad to play dev mode
Does the general community play with dev mode. I find the game insanely more difficult and generally slower without dev mode to give resources. Is that like, taboo within the community or is it generally accepted?
Also side note, is someone has a way to re-enable shoving quest prisoners back into crypods, or a mod to do that, that'd be fantastic!

If you have fun playing in dev mode go for it. Many players leave dev mode available but only turn it on to fix issues that pop up. Such as if a monument quest spawns with bad parameters and is impossible to complete, you can use dev mode to fix it. Or if a mod has a bad interaction with the game, dev mode can usually be used to fix it right up.

you paid for the game, play how you want.

Good, bad, you're the one with the dev mode.

Agreed. It's probably nothing to brag about (like "beating the game" at top difficulty), but there's no reason to not use it if you like.

In the beginning I played constantly with devmode to cover my screw-ups^^. I would tell you: Play the game how YOU want to play the game. You are the one, who should have fun with it.

I use it to fix BS situations and have some fun on the way. Also to test things out.

Play the game the way you have the most fun with. If this includes dev mode, go for it.

Having said that, I found the game quite easy, even on the intended difficulty ("strive to survive"). I never used dev mode. I never had any "BS" situation I wasn't able to get around with reloading a save and changing that one wrong decision. I also don't have any mods to make the game easier (all of these "improved <this>" and "better <that>" mods) whose sole meaning is to change the difficulty balancing. They all don't say it explicitly, but they all reduce difficulty.

Using dev mode means you can have everything at no cost. This seems fun for a minute, but after this minute the game gets boring immediately.

I turn it off and on every so often. Usually in the first few days I try to "plan out" how I design a colony. I turn on dev mode to get a correct measurement of something (like sunlamps), then turn it off. Or if I want to find out where infestations are most likely to happen I may turn it back on and get an idea on where to prioritize building first. Or I may force a raid to know what to expect the game to be able to throw at me.

And then there's times where I feel like the game is cheating on me, spawning multiple raids in rapid succession of one another. Then I turn it on and bomb the raiders for that catharsis feeling. But then I feel bad and reload before the raid happened and try and pretend it never existed. That's me at my worst.

But if you find the game to be more fun with dev mode on, play with it on. As long as you don't ask for the game to go on sale this community is usually just happy to see how others are doing in their games.

it's entirely up to your self control honestly. I always have dev mode on if I am not playing vanilla game for bug finding or to view hidden statistic. Occasionally I would use dev mode to test a few things on site instead of making a new save to do it. If I use dev mode for anything else I restart the game entirely.
There is a huge difference between a colony thrive on it's own and the one that survive by dev mode.

Play however you want. Personally I use dev mode whenever a colony is going downhill and I give up on it. Not to save it, but to place antigrain warheads everywhere, damage them till they explode, and basically nuke it.
