Having said that, I found the game quite easy, even on the intended difficulty ("strive to survive"). I never used dev mode. I never had any "BS" situation I wasn't able to get around with reloading a save and changing that one wrong decision. I also don't have any mods to make the game easier (all of these "improved <this>" and "better <that>" mods) whose sole meaning is to change the difficulty balancing. They all don't say it explicitly, but they all reduce difficulty.
Using dev mode means you can have everything at no cost. This seems fun for a minute, but after this minute the game gets boring immediately.
And then there's times where I feel like the game is cheating on me, spawning multiple raids in rapid succession of one another. Then I turn it on and bomb the raiders for that catharsis feeling. But then I feel bad and reload before the raid happened and try and pretend it never existed. That's me at my worst.
But if you find the game to be more fun with dev mode on, play with it on. As long as you don't ask for the game to go on sale this community is usually just happy to see how others are doing in their games.
There is a huge difference between a colony thrive on it's own and the one that survive by dev mode.
