They'll have several forms of learning they can pick from and one of them is the Classroom where they'll have someone with them at the Desk to teach them a various topic like Medical or Melee. They'll also learn from other tasks like talking on the Comms console or following your pawns while they do work
From what I remember there are the following:
- Nature Running: Run around free in nature and study it. This is often a very dangerous thing as there is always a raid when they are out if you ask me.
- See someone else work: When a child just follows an adult around and see how they do things.
- Radio talk: If you have the Microelectronics research the child will want to use a comms console to talk with people on it and learn from that.
- School desk: Sit down and get taught by an adult. By far the most efficent way to learn.
When it comes to children you have to just realize that it will take time. They are not very useful as even if you give them 100% free time, they still will not have perfect 100% scores. This doesn't actually matter because as long as they are mostly within the 90% or 80%. You have more than enough time to get perfect benefits for them when they age up.
Teaching is only supposed to learn fill up their learning need. You then need time for the learning points to rack up.
You can just set children to be 100% on Rec time, but that is wasteful. You can also set them to clean and haul after age 3. Then at age 7 you can set them to cook or break rocks or even make clothing and so on. Just do not assign them work time. The child needs to be able to stop their work at any time to go and study. This means they are less effective, but it is good enough as children is not an effective workforce anyway.
It's actually better since full recreation is over kill on keeping their learning need topped off, which they already prioritize over everything else under Anything.
