Taming Megaspiders
I believe as of the current version all animals can be tamed. Does anyone have an effective strategy for taming hostile megaspiders? Would psychic shock lance work well?

Animals can't be tamed if they're downed.
The only way you could do it is by downing them from damage and then patching them up. When animals, including wild ones, are tended they have a small chance of forging a bond with the one that tended them, which will immediately tame a wild animal.
If I recall correctly, insects since 1.1 are designed to keep their aggressive status even after downing (similar to manhunters) so without mods it's not possible to have insect pet

You can still technically acquire a Megaspider by playing on a map where the "Animal Migration" event happens (I know Tundra and Ice Sheet maps have Animal Migrations, but maybe deserts too?). You can get a Migration of Megaspiders that are not part of the insectoid faction that way.

You aren't allowed to patch up the Megaspiders, you have to down it first with a blunt weapon without killing it, then after it have recovered can you tame it i think.

I had a pair of tamed feralisks. Was great early-mid game, but I had to keep them out of combat after they started getting their butts kicked and two of them were blown up by an exploding turret.

Would that new (to me at least) psychic pacifier work on insects from the black hive / insectoids mod as they spawn as a faction?

Hello! I am for sure late, but I was having the same question.

The Megaspiders and any creatures of the insecticide factions can be tamed. You have to remove the hives, and knock them down. Then heal them and tame them, as any other hostile animal.

For example, I had to kill a cave hive, killed the other megaspider and I knocked the other out. I healed it and tamed it with it's brother's meat.

Not sure if you needed the answer still, but I wish you all the best. Have a fun time!

I had some spiders start fleeing out of a cryocasket when going into the 'dangerous' building that most maps have. I'd not seen it before, but they fled out in the open fields and just... settled.

They're very tamable. I will often tame about half the flock then sell them to wandering caravans or nearby villages, same as I do boom-everything.

I've noticed that sometimes insectoids will become passive after being incapacitated from damage. Doesn't happen often, but I've seen it a few times.

Even with mods its difficult to tame insects. You will need a mod that raises the skillcap in order to have a chance as the chance percent is so low. It seems you cannot tame adult insects at all really. But with a level 20 in animals or above you can tame baby insects. I have done this to tame gigalocasts they make great pets and more so with giddy up riding.

I do use a variety of mods so its possible this is not possible in vanilla. Though if you want to try. The best way to tame insects is through random events. When insects spawn in with a nest kill all the adults leaving one or two nests. Wall them in. Now just wait for the babies to spawn and kill the ones you don't want.

Taming insects is deadly. You are going to be attacked the entire time.

It's not worth it. They aren't that good in combat anymore.
