Is there a reasonable way to wake up animals?
I'm trying to send in some boombats to a seige area, and they won't wake up. I've switched zones and they just sleep and then change zones if they wake up.

Unless they are attacked, animals sleep through gunfire and explosions, even when it's right next to them.

That's odd usually when I change an animals area they'll move immediately sleep or otherwise. Did you make the zone then assign it to the animals, or the other way around? I have noticed they won't respond to changes in their current zone until they finish what they're doing. But changing their assigned zone tends to interrupt them. Could also be a pathing issue. are there any forbidden or blocked doors between them and the target?

No pathing issues.

I have two areas that I use for boom animals, BoomArea and BoomAttack. BoomArea is a broad area outside my base for them to graze. BoomAttack is always cleared after I use it, then I make another where I need it. It's only a single tile. When they finally wake up, they immediately go to this square. I've tried switching back and forth between zones and they will just sleep and then move when they wake up.

I've also noticed that other animals have the same issue. Could be a mod that is causing an issue, I don't know. Just annoying to watch them all sleep while I'm fighting right next to them refusing to move until they wake up.

I've tried using the melee to wake them up, but they usually attack me after even though they belong to me. Reasonable, but not reasonable for them to sleep while I'm shooting right next to them.

Are they assigned to follow their master when he/she is drafted? That might work.

You would need guard training so that they would rouse when their owner is drafted. Otherwise you could try changing their zone and disallow them from their current sleeping spots, but that isn't guaranteed to work if they're already asleep.

If you want to be risky you could shoot at them with a machine pistol or something. Animals wake up from nearby bullet strikes, or from getting hit themselves, so you might be able to rouse them without one of them blowing up.

Thanks Hunter. I totally forgot that you have to do the guard training for them to follow you around.

Perhaps you could also try to put an animal sleeping spot on the floor, make it a medical one, and give the animal a medical procedure (anything, just to get them to start to move to the medical spot.)
At least I think this is part of vanilla now, if this is a mod, my apologies.
It's also a pretty cumbersome way, especially if there are lots of animals, but if all else fails.

(Also, yeah, changing zones should work to wake them up. While I haven't done it the last couple of days, I use this method regularly. So probably a mod issue indeed.)
