RimWorld

Rimworld created a massive file
I'd just finished playing, saved the game and hit exit. I got back later and found the game still running but unresponsive, so I ended the program. When I opened my web browser I was informed that my PC had low disk space. After some checking I discovered that in User\AppData\LocalLow\Ludeon Studios\RimWorld by Ludeon Studios a 79+ GB player.log file had been created. Player-prev (another file there) is 4 GB. I deleted player.log. I'm not 100% sure what is happening here, but it looks like there is a loop in the player.log creation code somewhere. Which would be why the game never exited after I closed it and it kept adding data to that file endlessly. Whatever it is it's clearly a problem.

Most likely a mod author left on verbose logging when releasing their mod.

Is there a way to tell which one?

Player.log bloat has been caused by mistakes in some mods in the past. I do not know which one(s) have been the culprit.

Try searching 'player.log', 'bloat', or something similar and you should find some posts on this and hopefully the name of the mod that is causing this.

If this problem just started, the first mods to examine would be the ones you have most recently added or have most recently been updated.

I found a previous discussion. "ED Enhanced" mod says that is can block writing to the log file, so I'll give that a try. Thanks for your time and help. Stay safe out there.

couple months ago I bought a 2 TB m.2 SSD. Figured I'd be good for a while. Started playing rimworld 2 weeks ago, and that file is up to 800 GB, and I'm out of space on my drive. 95% sure that file is safe to delete.

It is safe to delete. If Rimworld hangs when you exit the game you need to kill the process as Unity is spamming the error log because your mods added too many sounds and it chokes trying to unload them on exit if you don't return to the main menu first and wait a little while for them to be unloaded.
