RimWorld

RimWorld

(Solved) RimWorld doesn't start with mods. Anyone else had this problem?
Update: I managed to solve it. More details and solution here. https://steamcommunity.com/app/294100/discussions/0/3944650462449908329/?tscn=1699327464#c3944651039519582311
---

I know the title is very generic and I'll do my best to detail the things that happened to me, that way if someone else had the same problem I can eliminate some possibilities. If you want to read this fine if not you don't have to.

The problem started around 28 hours ago (3rd November 2023, afternoon in West European time). I was playing just fine until I quit the game for a few minutes. After starting the game and wait to load everything I start to notice that it's taking longer to load than usual. I check my Task Manager and the RAM memory on the game is not rising, which means that it's not being loaded. I force-closed the game and restarted the game.

This time around the game loaded but without mods. I check my loaded games (which are safe) and decided to load the mod list from my colony. It restarts and I'm starting to have the same problem. Which is the game not properly loading, making me see this planet in space.

I tested the game with my other computer and I have the same problem.

The mods I have are everything from Vanilla Expanded collection, Alpha Animals, and a few from the Biomes! maps. I don't have nothing too complex like Rimworld of Magic but it's still a large modpack of near 100 mods.

Maybe it's one of these problems that magical computer gnomes can fix if I don't touch the game for a few weeks, because it's the second time that I have this problem. But regardless, does anyone have this problem?

Most likely Alpha Animals - the recent update caused the same to my Game.

Tried Alpha Animals, did not work. Something broke. When did this stupid ass update happen? I did not see any notes on a update.

Alpha Animals got updated today but I started having problems since yesterday unless it got updated yesterday. My best move I guess is to wait a few days. I was waiting +12 for Half Life 3, a few days more won't hurt.

Instead of just waiting a few days maybe try placing a bug report. https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/discussion/1541721856/1735468061769788888/?ctp=35

I don't believe placing a bug report without a log can make a modder happy. I cannot access the log if my game is frozen.

Same issue. Can't load with mods and defaults into a mod-free version.

Disable/unsubscribe from any of your mods that updated recently. That should get your game running again. Then just reinstall the mods one by one until you find the culprit.

Also a quote from the page I linked: "Note that you can find your logs at \steamapps\common\RimWorld\RimWorldWin64_Data\output_log.txt and you can share it with me by uploading it to https://pastebin.com"

There is no such log in that folder in my computer sadly.

Its probably a mod that was recently updated. Go to the workshop subscribed items sort by date updated. Remove the most recent mods one by one until you find the culprit.

from your steam folder
go to steamapps\workshop\content\294100
sort by date modified
remove all mods that were updated since your last successful game start up

Good idea. Thanks.

I found out why my Rimworld wasn't starting.

TLDR: A mod I was using suddenly needed a few mods. I added them and Rimworld finally worked.

Read this with full attention, everyone, because you will need to do it at some point. I was manually adding mods instead of hitting the "Load modlist from save" from my savegame and I found out that one of the mods that I was using, Biomes! Islands, got updated but needed two dependent mods to work: Pathfinding Framework and Prepatcher. I will link everything below in case you want to mess things around or experiment.

It took me 10 minutes while I was browsing the mods menu until I realized that the Biomes! Islands was in red text with the warnings that needed these mods. And I got approximately 240 mods (yeah, I counted them).

You can imagine the sigh of relief I had after I restarted the game successfully with the updated modpack.

This is why you shouldn't trust the "Load modlist from save" button blindly because it doesn't solve problems, practically speaking. You need to check the mods menu and see for yourself.

This info is also found on the unofficial rimworld Discord server, mod updates are posted there, please join if you want to stay up to date. https://discord.gg/rimworld
if this doesnt work: https://discord.gg/UTaMDWc https://discord.gg/K4wQe57 other permanent invite links to the rimworld discord server, it is quite active, but you can select which categories you want to follow. I always stay in the mod resources channels because those have the most info I believe are important/interesting when playing with mods.

I use browse channels to not overwhelm myself with the amount of channels the server has.

#general, #rimworld and #modding resources, I have the voice channels hidden because most of the time it's quite active or nobody is in there. Another important note, you can also go there for troubleshooting when you play with mods and have errors. Some channels have recently been changed into forums to have more organised conversations.
