Sappers in a mountain bunker base?
I started a new colony in a very interesting set up, where in a mountain tile i have a U shaped outside path that leads right into a perfect entrance with a giant chunk of fertile ground. This creates a forked path at my front door, that could easily and quickly be designed to have 5+ block thick mountain or wall everywhere but my front doors at the ends of the forks, I do believe.

In that set up, what will sappers do? Their choices are dig thru some serious wall or mountain, or go to what will be an 'exposed/open' front door.

Ive never had a set up that didnt have obvious weak spots for sappers to target, so this terrain set up seemed super interesting.

Just curious what anyones experiences or feedback is. Thanks! :lunar2020horrifiedrat:

Whichever is easier to breach. If the sappers land at the far side closer to the walls rather than the door (assuming the door is reinforced / guarded) they will likely attempt to dig through to get to the closest player controlled area from that point.

If the walls are too thick, the result will be "digging at the door". If there is a weaker point, they will go for that instead.

Screenshot might help.

a screenshot would be nice.

Sappers will avoid turrets, they'll dig through rock or blow walls up as they see fit.

So this is the center area with the northern and southern forks, which i could clog off right there and live in the mountain, which i plan to expand into at least moderately.

This is the southern entrance, everything west is solid rock basically

This is the northern entrance, the 3 way intersection is where i intended to make my gate/entrance or killbox, if i didnt just turtle up directly around the center.

The center area between the two entrances is easily enough reinforced so, those 3 areas are the main areas that im eyeing for setting up defenses.

Sappers will typically dig through about 20ish tiles before they give up, so they will get through those natural barriers. Oh, how I loathe them diggers!
That little thin area between the north and south entrances. That's what they'll dig into.

Suggest relocating to the west niche inside the mountain and hewing out a good chunk there for living space. Means you only have 2 areas of approach since they won't dig that far into the mountains.

This is Bjorn Strongndarm. He has a whole series on how RimWorld works under the hood.

If you watch it, be warned, it takes some of the magic away...
