Ground-penetrating scanner chances
Does anyone know what are the chances of finding the different materials with the ground-penetrating scanner? I really want to find some plasteel, however I've found mostly steel and a bit of gold. How rare is plasteel?

I find the underground is on par with above ground. Rarer stuff seems to be the smaller deposits.

The Long Distance scanner when set to scan for plasteel will come up with more frequent results for minable locations than the Ground penetrating scanner's probability. I usually wait until I have three locations found and then send a few prospectors out to mine them all.
Meanwhile I'll have another reasearcher on the Underground scanner in any case. They will eventually find plasteel and that will provide tons more than a single long range prospect.
So, it's better to do both... get plenty of plasteel from mining elsewhere and keep searching for a deposit on your own map.

Oh wow I have never used the Long Distance scanner so I didn't even think about using it. Thanks, I'll have to try it out while I'm searching for plasteel in my own colony.

ive been using the deep scanner for 1.5 years and havent found a single uranium lode. :(

so far ive found FIVE steel lodes, one plasteel, one jade and one silver.

I found three uranium deposits, followed by steel, silver, jade, gold and more steel on my own map...
meanwhile I had countless plasteel and gold to mine elsewhere.
The result was I could churn out tons of advanced components, build a spaceship, many cataphract gears, bionic body parts, powered weaponry, aesthetic noses (almost all of my pawns had lost a nose at some point lol) and the list goes on ;)

To be honest I just cannot stand the way the scanner works in 1.1.
It used to work just fine, now it's massive time waster.
I just got a deep drill mod that lets me pull up whatever ore I want from the ground. Costs a lot to build and is a massive power hog but it is worth it.

+1

All that time to research it (and Deep Drilling). Then mats to build it. Then shut down research for days while my 20 Intelligence dude does nothing but scan.... and he finds one steel node (on a map crawling with steel above ground). 2 more days of scanning anyone?
