Meanwhile I'll have another reasearcher on the Underground scanner in any case. They will eventually find plasteel and that will provide tons more than a single long range prospect.
So, it's better to do both... get plenty of plasteel from mining elsewhere and keep searching for a deposit on your own map.
so far ive found FIVE steel lodes, one plasteel, one jade and one silver.
meanwhile I had countless plasteel and gold to mine elsewhere.
The result was I could churn out tons of advanced components, build a spaceship, many cataphract gears, bionic body parts, powered weaponry, aesthetic noses (almost all of my pawns had lost a nose at some point lol) and the list goes on ;)
It used to work just fine, now it's massive time waster.
I just got a deep drill mod that lets me pull up whatever ore I want from the ground. Costs a lot to build and is a massive power hog but it is worth it.
+1
All that time to research it (and Deep Drilling). Then mats to build it. Then shut down research for days while my 20 Intelligence dude does nothing but scan.... and he finds one steel node (on a map crawling with steel above ground). 2 more days of scanning anyone?
