If genealogy was removed from small animals, find the smallest animal that still has it and then breed that. An army of ducks is probably just as nice as an army of rats, and you get to be impressed by their good breeding at the same time.
Nah this is in the base game. When an animal is born, it lists father, mother, siblings and other family ties in the social tab.
Tame animals are also super prone to incest and the game keeps track of that too.
So after a few births you'll have things like boomrat #32 whose mother is also its aunt.
In the social tab you can see their relations of a target colonist/animal. Wife, fathers, Aunts, sons, bonded owner, etc. When you play a colony long enough the list can get pretty long.
In the past I bred Muffalo and it was a source of enjoyment for me to see how inbred I could get them. I recently tried this with rats and when I got to 100 I thought to check in and see how inbred they were and the rat's social tab was completely empty. It was kind of a buzzkill to see this as I spent a lot of time and resources growing my rat population to get that large.
The social tab is still working but only for the bigger animals. Small stuff like rats, hares and squirrels its absent.
But for Rimworld, it's just silly flavour text.
