Bug? Bionic stomach can be removed
I had a prisoner with a bionic stomach. I took the part from him and expected him to die.

But he lived on. With no stomach?

I have no mods that influence this.

Is it a bug?

It's not a bug. The stomach is not a vital body part, according to the game.

I think they just can't eat if you remove it.

It's not a vital body part irl, either.

The stomach is just a processor, assuming you hooked up his intestines to the rest of the system where you removed it, he'd still live, albeit not as nearly as efficiently since his stomach isn't there to help with the breakdown process, so he's going to be passing a lot of food undigested due to it not being broken down enough for proper nutrient absorption.

Certain kinds of meals or preparations would get around that limitation and have little to no difference with having a stomach or not.

I assume the tiny amount of digestion for no stomach is simple a catch-all for them having to process all his food into a liquid state, with the massive time requirement to eat simulating the processing step of his food.

(keeping in mind, digestion in game doesn't affect how much nutrients you extract from food but how much time it takes to eat a given amount of nutrients).

Digestion in the game doesn't actually have anything to do with food or eating. Losing a stomach in RimWorld means a pawn loses 15% rest recovery rate when sleeping (going from 100% to 85% with no other modifiers), that's the only downside, and they become immune to gut worms. The stat was called Metabolism until very recently, I don't know why it was changed, it's even more confusing now.

IRL the stomach is mostly superfluous in many animals and completely evolved out of in others. It's not an important organ in humans and losing your stomach will hardly alter your life, though you will probably lose some weight.
