cannot create stockpile zones, other zones work fine...

For some reason in my new game I cannot create stockpile type zones at all.
I can create other zones just fine, but not any sort of stockpile zones.

When I click and drag then release the mouse button, the game acts like it doesn't detect the mouse release. If I click again it just resets the start of the drawn area to where I clicked.

Anyone know what might cause this? (other than a general answer like "mods")

I have a bit over 300 mods in my mod list so trying to to remove some in a trial and error fashion won't work so easily.

Mostly I'm hoping someone might know what type of mods might cause this problem or if they've seen this happen before.

This is the first time I've played since 1.4 was released and I didn't have this problem in the my previous 1.3 sessions. Unfortunately the number of mods I had to change between 1.3 and the 1.4 release is large enough that it's not that easy to just point at one of the replacements mods and say "that's the cause"... I made a number of changes to the mods also based on reading about some mods that bad for performance etc and tried removing those.

Well here's to hoping someone can provide some useful advice or even better a direct answer..
and thanks in advance for any such advice.

ok in case anyone else has this problem...
I removed 2 mods from my list and the problem was solved.
The mods are

bs.performance - Performance Fish
mehni.allyourbase - All Your Base

Considering the second one doesn't actively make changes and just detects problematic type changes, it was probably Performance Fish or that in combo with who knows what else....

Stupid suggestion but must include just to cover the most basic of basics - make sure you draw zones through click-hold-drag-release, and not click-release-drag-click. You say you can make other zones just fine but the "if I click again" comment made me feel like I needed to include this.

Not stupid since they are the basic of the basic and who knows right?
But no set of possible actions results in creating a stockpile zone whereas they work fine for other zones.

So click-hold-drag-release - on release nothing changes. It acts as though I am still holding the mouse button down. If I then click it just reset the start point of the stockpile zone and acts again as if I am holding the left button.

As for trying a second game - same results - cannot create a stockpile zone but others are fine. :(

As for the player.log file I thought it was the same as the ingame logging in dev mode but it isn't has a rather suspicious error spammed in it at the end of the log
