How many batteries should i have?
if im producing 10000 watts for example how many batteries should i have?
Is a battery 600 watts because it says 600wd?
Im not sure

600 wd means it can put out a constant 600 watts for 1 day.

If you're relying on solar and/or wind, I'd usually say have enough battery storage to keep the colony running at least 24 hours with no power input. So, the total base's needs in watts converted to wd. Never know when you'll have a bad streak of eclipse crossed with little to no wind.

By the way, don't hook all your batteries up in one group. If there's a short circuit event, you lose all power from every battery in the grid instantly.

Split them into groups, with a switch that you can use to separate them from the rest of the grid. In really early game, I make a switch for every single battery.

Once one battery (or group) reaches max capacity, turn the switch off to isolate it. Then turn on another switch so all the power now goes to a different group instead. With all the power going to a smaller group of batteries, they charge to max faster.

You can also pickup and move a charged battery, without it losing charge. So if you're short on parts to make switches, you could literally manually move a batteries around. Pretty tedious, but useful if are short on parts to make switches.

Or 300W for 2 days, or 1200W for 0.5 days. Just to expand on Steelfleece's answer.

the more batteries you have, the bigger the explosion from the zzzt event.
In vanilla you only need batteries if you have variable output power sources (wind and solar). Doubt you will need many in a base, maybe a couple for each sunlamp if they aren't on the main grid.

depend on how much energy do you need and if you use solar or wind turbines. if you can afford to use only wood/fuel/geothermal generator or Vanometric power cell,

I dimension my batteries as a buffer in such a way that i can get at least through the night with solar power missing (naturally) and lets say, 1/3 or half wind.

For emergencies, i have generators.

So as an example, if your base draws 10.000 Watt with everything on, i want 10.000 * (no light + 1/2 wind) * half a day in my batteries. that should be 10.000 W * 0.75 * 1/2d = 3750 Wd in battery stored energy. Ofc thats no exact science, you can dimension it as you see necessary

assuming the base had just wind and solar power. If you have other constant energy production, just subtract it before.

TLDR - just use as many batteries to be happy without power outtages

you can protect your bats with the RTFuse mod.One big fuse should protect 3 batteries iirc.
