Rimworld RAM
hello guys!
How much RAM do I need to play rimworld?

My colony is 11 game years old and game loads my PC RAM for 11 Gb (my PC go 16Gb). I play vanilla game with only mod Rimthread to solve low TPS problem. Is there any way to optimize RAM issues?

I so dudes play with a lot of mods and build really huge colonies but no RAM issues.

You shouldn't need 11gb, four or five would be a heavy load. If the only thing you have running as a mod is Rimthreaded then either you are way beyond the end game or something isn't right with that mod.

Rimworld is pretty much the original reason why I upgraded to 32GB of ram. 16GB stopped being adequate once I started getting into mods. The loading times got unacceptably long. Also lag got pretty bad.

I rarely break 2gb with my mod list.

The store page says 4gb, the game shouldn't use that much though as that is including memory used by your OS. The game is typically using 1-3gb depending on how many mods you are using. Significantly above that means something is broken, like a memory leak in your mods.

I typically use 150-200 mods and my game uses 1.5-2.5gb tops. If you use like all of Vanilla Factions Expanded that can add around 500mb, those are the chonkiest mods I know of.

You really only NEED 16 for the game, but adding mods can make it use more RAM, depending on the mods.

Some mods may introduce memory leaks, judging by my experience in usage over time. An older comp with 8 gigs ram (max it could support, rather old rig) ran fine even with other processes running in vanilla and with a small mod list. Started to have issues with a larger mod list. Current computer is at 32 and I almost never have issues with RW unless there's a mod conflict, even with other things running. ...I tend to pause RW a lot, and I'll be swapping between it and a MMO where I may be playing the auctions for profit. The most I've seen the game take up was a bit over 20 gigs, but there was definitely a memory leak in progress since it had been gradually ballooning over the course of a long session.

Some day I need to track down what mod/s are causing that, but it's never run out of memory and I don't usually get the chance to leave the game running all day anymore so meh.

This. I would not count on every author tracking down memory leaks over time, some of them don't even make mods anymore and just update them to the latest game versions to stop people badgering them.
