How deal with pigskins...? -.-
So, biotech is great and got me another 100h on the clock for this effing game.

Alas, i don't understand what the hell this games sudden fascination with fire-starting enemietypes is all the sudden. Worst is the pigs.

Cassandra, Strive to survive: 40 pig raiders come, wearing at the min. full flak armour, every second one armed with frags, rocket launchers, molotovs etc.

Can't stop them before they are in range for their explosives, No, matter how elaborate the killbox or well equiped and skilled my soldiers are. and when they are, half your base is blasted or on fire.

Any tips how to deal with them (except for modding them out or sth like that).

Thanks!

Are they breaching your defenses or are they herding through the killbox?

I've had really good luck lately with this burn box, but if they're busting through your walls it won't help much.

If it's just your everyday raid, it's kind of ok, they get blasted by turrets and my pawns. Now, in the "late game", they tend to always go for bombing through walls, since my base is kinda like a densly built village, it always escalates to cqc street fighting. Their sheer number and the amount of explosives they use make this very frustrating.

Another thing i noticed is that you can't just "meet them in the field" and kite them with jump packs etc, since raiders now tend to mostly ignore your soldiers shootiung at them and just run straight to your base center. Don't know if it was always like this, haven't played for a while before i started up biotech

if you build your killbox properly, the raiders shouldn't be able to shoot at you to begin with.
As for drop pod raids, I recommend having some 3x3 corridors in your colony so you can group up your colonists and hunt down the raiders one by one. Those rockets shouldn't be an issue if you just kill them before they can use it.
Guys with rockets are perfect targets for insanity lances, or just watch them shoot each other in the back.

Fire is an issue early game before you can make fireproof buildings, by time a 40 person outlander raid happens you should be laughing at any fire based attacker.

psychic insanity /shock lances vs the rocket launchers before they fire

also i save all the rocket lanuchers i get and then i can hit a big mob with a few rockets at the start of the fight if needed

I´m also a fan of insanity lances or psycasts like stun, or skip, or vertigo pulse - and weapons which provide stopping power, like the bolt action, LMG, sniper...

And lategame charge rifles and lances make short work of them - but then the killbox doesn´t matter as they also like to drop pod all over the place, that´s why i usually don´t bother with building one - but i agree that the numbers are sometimes ridiculous, that´s why i set the threat scale to 60% nowadays, which means they would "only" call like 100 tribals in some quest missions, or "only" 30 elephants - with Randy and 500k+ wealth.

Drop pods can be easy with the 3x corridor and the common 13x13 buildings - but that looks boring imho. That way You could place a turret at any crossing (which usually get disabled by a solar flare before a bigger raid), and always have a straight and clear line of sight for shooting with providing little cover for them and their short range.

I usually end up building neat villages, that´s why i dropped the scale, as You need to set it up more effective with higher numbers, so the numbers don´t matter. It´s only restricting my creativity. :o)

The piggies do not like assault rifle bullets, but they are tanky and potentially numerous. They also do not like being on fire, incendiary grenade launcher is gud. Essentially, they're a threat between tribals and mechanoids. If you are trying higher difficulties, you need to use more of the game's mechanics effectively. Berserk psycasts are gold for most content.

OK first, to clear things up, when i said "killbox", i missused the term it seems. I don't mean an elaborate traproom that kills like a raid of 80 dudes with traps or fire. With killbox i meant the area where raids will be caught in the crossfire of my turrets and soldiers.

My problem kind of self-resolved the moment i got all my rgular troopers recon armor and charge rifles. Makes dealing with fire and explosives a lot easier, especially with jump packs and the knew sanguaphage abilities.

Thank you all anyways for the advice!

kinda random idea, but just in case, someone told me in another thread months ago turrets are pretty good now, and they can get bonus from cover too, so sandbags are no longer, mostly, a decoration item for them.

So I tried to cover up the wall with turrets, from every direction, using all kinds of medium turrets side by side separated by a small 1~2 tiles of walls, and many small turrets placed in front of them, surrounded by sandbags acting as decoys, to my surprise they really are capable of repelling some big ass max size raids on their own, or, at least, the majority of them until they run out of bullets, with support from your pawns and mechs it's a lot easier.

It's a huge drain of resources, sure, but it's pretty fun to see, just an idea.

Yes, this is what it came down to in my base. It's like a village with city walls, with turrets and "Encampments" on the inside. Raids just get kited through the gate by my fastest soldier on goi-juice and voila. Next thing you know, 5 leftover downed pigs are squealing while burning in the fire they created themselfes :)

Hmm - for the turret thing You probably need a clear line of sight like in the desert or ice sheet, and perhaps it´s a good idea to disable solar flares if You want to rely on them. Sometimes You get such a solar flare and shortly after it a raid, which would turn Your whole defense useless.
