Emps work fine if they have a brain implant as well, obviously very niche usage

Absolutely, but you can't craft those.

Definitely a shock lance, but failing that, anything with low, blunt damage, like a club or mace.

Partly why getting into the habit of sending caravans is really good, some of the more limited stuff becomes basically infinite

Assuming you don't possess a Shock Lance, the next best option is any blunt weapon with either low quality such as a poor/awful mace (preferably steel or a weaker material, Uranium maces are one of the deadliest melee weapons available) or a club. If you're willing to utilize mods, the Vanilla Expanded mod collection has a Non-Lethal weapons module that adds an array of weapons designed for incapacitating rather than killing, or you could utilize the Hand-to-Hand mod which adds special nonlethal takedowns for pawns with sufficient melee skill.

If you have a mechinator, pikemen and legionaries have needle guns that mostly cause bruises and don't kill unless the damage is critical. you can also use war queens and diabolus or centurions due to their weak turret they will shoot while preparing their normal attacks. shock lances are also an option but they cause brain damage and even set people on fire too much in my experience, so just keep them for big game like thrumbos. clubs are also good at downing pawns but high melee skill pawns still like to break off entire limbs and crush skulls, so really any blunt weapon will do here

Machine Pistol is the best "weapon" for downing pawns without killing them. People tend to recommend blunt because it doesn't have the risk of brain damage, bleeding out, or infections. Infections usually aren't very dangerous anymore, biosculpters make the low risk of brain damage insignificant, and you can now easily tend on the ground if needed if a pawn is about to bleed out.

What you want is to do a very low amount of damage so the hits spread out causing pain and are unlikely to destroy anything important. Machine pistols do only 6 damage, which is significantly lower than anything else. The next closest is an awful ranged weapon used in melee which does 7.2 blunt damage, but melee damage has variance and that can hit for up to like 11 damage, Human firsts are 8.2 base blunt damage and higher DPS though and should be used instead of the weaker gun attack most of the time. Then for an actual dedicated blunt weapon there's awful wood maces which do 11.3 base damage.

Generally speaking, you might not want people carrying machine pistols all the time since they aren't very good weapons overall, same with awful wood maces. A more typical situation if you want to down somebody with a lower chance of killing them, is to either just pick anyone with a gun to melee attack them, or drop whatever weapon they have equipped and punch the pawn down.

Tec 9 causes too much bleeds unless the target is armored, which early game raiders don't usually carry flak or power until mid game. with biotech your awful maces and gun pokes are going to get shredded by neaderthals and yttekin because of the 150% damage bonus they get due to their genes. i personally recommend using mechanoids because of their needle and low powered energy weapons that deal smaller amounts of damage and don't kill unless it hits a vital area.

I'm not really sure what you mean. Needle guns have higher AP than Machine Pistols and are more likely to cause bleeding hits. The Machine Pistol is only 9 AP which is the lowest in the game, meaning even a lot of clothing raiders spawn with has a chance to blunt it. Needle guns and needle launchers from the pikeman/legionary have 35 AP, which means any enemy not in "real armor" is generally going to always get bleeding wounds from them.

i drop my weapons and melee em with fists with a few pawns, they don't usually die but can for sure.

careful if the pawn has 150% melee dmg gene, might be better to send a baseline pawn in

word of serenity is great for break downs, but you don't get catharsis buff then on the pawn with the break down so its situational

Burns have a high pain level, but you need to have medicine and a good DR to deal with the higher infection chance. and not fully incinerate the pawn you're trying to capture.

Burning people indeed a spectacular way to get prisoners, and they won't even bleed to death on you!
