RimWorld
Power keeps disappearing
No mods, only biotech dlc. I'm drawing power from four geothermal vents and it's more than enough for my needs. However I keep having research benches and stuff being deactivated due to insufficient power. Earlier I had a surplus of several thousand. I've clicked the power tab repeatedly to check the blue lines for any interruptions, gone over everything carefully to make sure there isn't a break or a generator that needs repair. Nope, all good. I will say my layout is a mess. Is it possible that pathing is just wonky somehow? Any suggestions? This is an issue that comes and goes so it's not a game breaker but it does make me worried. There's that "reconnect to network" option, sometimes it seems to help a bit but the issue eventually returns. It especially manifests whenever I load the game and start playing.

Check power production and usage when it happens
There's no pathing for power, anything connected becomes part of the network and power is instantly distributed regardless of distance or complexity of the conduits.

If you provide a screenshot of your grid somebody might spot something you missed. Otherwise coolers, heaters and sunlamps are the main power variable and depending on how many you have they can easily vary by thousands of power draw.

The reconnect button is just meant for switching between grids, if there are two power grids within range it will switch between them. If that's helping it might be evidence your grid is split.
My best bet would be that you don't actually have enough power, but you only check it when what's draining your power isn't active, like sun lamps
Crafting benches / smelters etc that require power will still draw power when not in use. This amount varies, but it can add up.
Examining it more closely, I have a feeling Veylox was correct and I simply overlooked consumption. Specifically a couple sanguophages were napping, turns out those deathrest chambers and accessories use a surprising amount of energy... Sort of makes me wish there were precise breakdown of what power is being generated and what devices exactly are using it though. Thanks for the assistance of course!
If heavy power usage is intermittent, a few batteries should help even things out between high-draw and low-draw periods.
Yeah. Up until now I hadn't really been bothering with batteries but guess it's time to research that. Mind you I've got research speed set to one percent so could take some time, heh.
If anyone sees this in 2024, make sure your geothermal generators haven't broke down. Happened to me, came here for answers, and was embarrassed to find out my generator had simply broke.
Thanks for the advice. I'm taking a bit of a break from Rimworld (although that new dlc looks cool) at the moment, Against the Storm eating up all my time.
