Did not know this great tip, thanks !
This is what I generally do, and it's great for bases that rely in part on batteries or on having to shut some power-sucking devices off during particularly hot or cool periods. Heaters and coolers on standby still use a small amount of power, but better than having them all coming on simultaneously then switching off when you only need a few running constantly.
Of course some people run with ridiculous amounts of excess power, especially on heavily modded playthroughs, so for them it isn't so much of an issue. Still good practice.
Just cut the main cable at the power source..... Done.
Or make sure that your heater and coolers are all on one line and then cut the line. replace line as needed.
Switches are a thing. In vanilla.
If you have Allow Tool, you can select 'Pick Similar' and do the same thing without zooming out.
You can multi-select and unify your control settings, including all on/off, if you wish. But, don't have a control to do that automagically in vanilla.
I forget the issue involved, here, but it's likely due to Rimworld's design to not allow "remote control" of certain assets, so that you can't automate traps and the like. Anyway, the work-around is to use a "Wire Mod" that allows you to have multiple wires in the same tile, each on different circuits. That way, you can easily design a circuit for all your residential Cooler/Heaters and control them on/off with one switch without convoluted wiring and multiple circuit banks all over the place.
I used one for awhile, but it got deprecated I think. So, just look for some wiring/electrical "conduit" mods that allow multiple circuits of wires to overlap in one tile. (If I can find the one I used, will edit/link)
PS: The mod I once used is no longer in the workshop, it seems, or doesn't respond to a "conduit" search. :(
