Beyond that, for things that aren't resources, if you want to keep track of what you have it requires creating your own organized inventory system. Store your equipment in one area on some shelves, your resources in another area on different shelves, your bodyparts and meds in another area, etc. Then you can see at a glance what you have without having to check lists or bills. Ever since the shelves were buffed in 1.4 I've actually turned off the resource list on the left of the screen entirely since it's so easy to just look at my steel shelves if I want to know how much steel I have.
This is what I usually do when I am just checking things in my storage.
Another way is to form a caravan and then you can see everything you have. Can be a bit cumbersome if you are a packrat, items accumulate fast if you are getting lots of raids, but it's a single window, and you'll see everything in your base's storage. Sometimes have to mouse over the item's name to see the full quality/percentage of wear. The UI doesn't always have enough characters to cover it.
