Adding a buffer storage.
Hi there, im wondering how to make a buffer storage room. My main farm is far from the kitchen and i want to make a buffer storage so my farmers would put it on someplace to prevent deterioration without walking too much. Thanks in advance

You got a little of a problem there
either you get a storage with high priority so the people store the stuff first there, but then they usually wont move it to the other
or you add a storage with lower priority which means it will usually get ignored

In my current run my farm is also a bit off from the kitchen, I am currently preparing everything so I can just relocate

Could have the workers who move stuff from the farm to the buffer be set to a zone that doesn't include the main storage and the second leg haulers in a zone that doesn't include the farm, but that would require more than a few spare haulers and feel a little inefficient.

Wouldn't forbidding the main storage area to the farmers be enough as long as the main storage area has a higher priority? The farmers would only haul to the near-storage area while regular haulers would grab from both the fields and the near storage area - but if the main point is just to get things in from the field ASAP then the general haulers taking from the fields shouldn't be a big deal.

You could deal with it more precisely by selectively enabling/disabling storage areas and forbidding stacks, but that's a lot of micro for a probably small efficiency gain.

You need two different haulers for it (or two groups).

You restrict one of them so that they can't go to the kitchen storage (Thus they will haul things between the farm and the closer storage since its the only one they have access to).

Then you restrict the other so that they can't go to the farm, while having the kitchen storage as a higher priority storage (the others will thus haul things from the buffer storage to the kitchen storage since it has higher priority, but they wont haul directly from the farms since they don't have access).

If your farmers are doing the hauling from the farm i'd simply restrict their access to the kitchen (only the cooking/raw food area mind you, make sure they have access to a storage with food in it, they still need to eat). Then restrict everyone else's access to the farms.

Limit the amount of items in storage room 2. I use a large storage room with shelves in smaller temperature controlled rooms, fridges work too if you're using that one. The shelves fill up first, then they stash stuff in the larger room and haul to the shelves as needed.
