Petition for HSK to be next DLC
So a couple years back, I was introduced to the HSK overhaul mod from watching a let's play on youtube. Seeing the sharp increase in added difficulty as well as content in the mod immediately piked my interest. Now, I can only play the HSK version as vanilla is too easy to me. With the amount of effort, time, and hard work those guys have put into their mod over the years, I believe they deserve the recognition and pay-off by having their mod become a DLC that you'll be able to toggle or something similar to how "Oxygen Not Included" did their "Spaced Out" DLC. I'm sure the main team would be happy to have a DLC that's already crafted and the mod team would be happy for support and half the proceeds. This post is mostly to get more people to try out the mod as it's not in the workshop and secondarily to see if maybe I can get this idea out there as maybe something happens. Thanks for your time and I'll add a link to the HSK mod below.

bethesda went down the paid mods rabbit hole; i cant imagine tynan would follow suit.

I guarantee they're not going to take an existing mod directly and turn it into a DLC. They may take the ideas from mods like they did with Biotech ( And, no, there's nothing wrong with that ), but not a direct commercialization of the mods someone else made.

HSK isn't on the workshop because it's not a mod, it's a modpack. Skyarkhangel and whoever else is maintaining it these days certainly puts a fair amount of effort into compatibility and balance between the mods included, but HSK is largely the combined work of dozens of other modders who released individual mods at one point that were then absorbed and adapted into HSK. It should be obvious here why that sort of thing can't be sold, and why it's not allowed on the workshop.

Back before RimWorld released on Steam, the place to find mods was the official game forums, and going through that and downloading individual mods was a huge pain. Most people used modpacks back then to make things easy, it was questionably "legal" but the convenience was worthwhile. HSK is the last holdout from that era. It doesn't get a lot of attention anymore because the workshop allows people to easily download the mods they want that fit their own playstyle, and the workshop also has mod list collections for people who don't want to bother without any need to download random executables on git.

SmashPhil's new vehicle framework with Vanilla Vehicles Expanded probably deserves to be a full DLC in terms of scope and execution. That stuff is god tier levels of awesome.

an insider tells me the next DLC will revolve around a total colonist needs rework, giving meaning to cooking and food because it will involving pooping hahaha

I hope not, it's hard to imagine me wanting to pay for pooping and I actually like the current needs system. There's a bunch of stuff that really could use expanding on but needs isn't one.

Got nothing to say about HSK as I've never even heard of it. Doubt I'll bother fiddling around outside the steam workshop.

I can't really imagine how needs would be expanded upon, that said what I do 'hope' is a rework in how pawns develop on the rim and I wouldn't mind a more in-depth character progression DLC. Right now I don't like how pawns don't progress and evolve as characters and are stuck in their backstory limitations and traits. There is literally no character progression for pawns except for how many body parts get replaced with bionics and how their 'skills' grow but aside from that they have no real progression. There is very little to no character development storytelling in this game that is mechanically represented in some form.

In my view pawns should change as time progresses the same as children evolve and mature into their traits and passions as they age. Some starter pawns have restricted job types and I really wish it was possible for pawns to grow out of those due to the circumstances of the rim. There's no reason why a child star can't do hauling on the rim because they were spoiled as a child. Strap up kiddo, you're on the rim, you wanna live? Better start hauling ass.

If I'm being honest, I'd want something similar (but not) Combat Expanded as DLC. Mainly, guns with ammo. That'd force more people to make it compatible, and from the creator, it'd likely be less game breaking than that mod.

I don't think it requires much technical knowledge to download mods for a game, especially since it's as simple as plopping down the folder in the correct mod folder. Yes, I agree that it was good that the Steam workshop, Nexus Mod Manager and Rimpy came along, but when you want a mod bad enough, you'll eventually learn how to download and use mods without requiring a modding tool such as Rimpy yourself.

Heavily agreed. I'd like to see Tynan's iteration on it. I'm not disparaging modders and their works, but the works of a developer is 9/10 more interesting since it goes in tune with the universe's lore. Not only that, I'm sure Tynan would allow us to ride a Warwalker since he added the ability to control Diaboluses and War queens.

The lore reason above is probably one of the reasons why many are eager to see more content by the developer, since only they can expand upon it officially.

I'm not really following you here. I didn't mean to imply downloading/installing mods was ever difficult to figure out. Digging through an old basic forum without key word tags, somehow finding/discovering the mods you wanted for the version you wanted, then following adfly links to some 3rd party download location, this was not a fun experience and even I mostly used modpacks back then to avoid the headache.

No to this modpack as a DLC. Yes to something that adds new fun mechanics that modders can hook into to add even more amazing content for an amazing game. My vote goes to something that expands on the world map, making it more dynamic and interactive.

Nah. If anything should be incorporated as a DLC, it should be the recent Vehicle Framework along with Vanilla Vehicles Expanded.
Asulox 2023 年 8 月 7 日 上午 3:48
I don't think this is a good idea from Tynans point of view, or for modders. Once one petition is 'successful' there will be more. Some modders will wonder why their awesome mods have been overlooked. Modding should remain a labour of love with the only expectation being community kudos.

I strongly disagree with this one,

If I was Tynan I'd be getting into contact with SmashPhill and see if I could hire him permanently to work out the Vehicles Framework as a full time employee of the company. This way the author of the VF can put all his time and dedication into finishing and polishing this passion project and support his living whilst also giving Rimworld and Tynan what it really needs to expand the game feature wise.

Honestly the VF as it is right now is already amazing and is on the quality of a full blown DLC. Imagine what the guy could do if he was fully supported. It's honestly a breath of fresh air in terms of feature expansion without compromising the lore.
