Cant load caravan with quest items

Ive started playing this game again after a long time so some things may have changed without me realising. I cant put certain items in the caravan even if i have plenty in storage. Currently i am trying to do a quest where i ship out 280 herbal medicine and i have over 700 in storage. I can load other items into the caravan that i am storing and also animals but it doesnt give me the option to put the herbal medicine in the caravan. On the travel supplies page it knows i have 700+ in storage and adds a few automatically for the journey but i cant manually add the medicine anywhere

On the travel supplies tab uncheck the button near the top that says something like auto-pack travel supplies, then you will be able to manually pack the amount of food/meds and such you want.

Ah ive got that to work but i still cant load the herbal medicine on the items tab. Do have to just overload herbal medicine on the travel supplies tab to take enough medicine to complete the quest or will i not be able to trade it if its classed as a travel supply?

You can trade travel supplies. You can carry just as many as the quest needs even, if you avoid using any on the way there or back. But just in case, carry extra.
