Rapid pollution
I think I've discovered a weird bug. I was playing a Mechanist run where I would store all my pollution in a cave until I could dedicate time to storing it in a giant freezer. I had left it for awhile so there was a pretty big circle of pollution but it was nowhere near my colony. Then out of nowhere I notice my game starts stuttering and a big cloud of purple haze is spreading all over the map. I look and its a massive wave of pollution that covers the entire map in like 20 seconds, originating for one stack of toxic waste that constantly exploding into a purple cloud. This was during a heatwave. Is this suppose to be a feature or a bug? This doesn't seem at all normal.

If you have a stack size increasing mod and don't limit wastepack stack size then that can probably eventually happen, like if you had a stack of 1000 that deteriorated at the same time it could cover a pretty large area of the map in pollution all at once.

Otherwise it sounds like a glitch. I remember seeing a thread where this happened to somebody else, where somehow the game got stuck in the spread pollution mode from a single wastepack deteriorating and it filled the entire map. I don't know what mods they were using, they just reloaded to avoid it happening.

Its the latter. It was one stack of 5 wastepacks.

So are you playing with mods? If the answer is yes then that would likely be the mod breaking rather than an issue with the game itself.

Yes, I am playing modded. I assumed the mods are the problem, but my play throughs with the exact same mods didn't have this problem. I'm going to have to figure out which ones are causing the issue.

always freeze wastepacks as they can spread faster than you expect, even on vanilla. if you are struggling with all the cancer molecules in the air, then make gas masks from chemfuel and steel to highly reduce the amount of pollution pawns soak up. grow crops in hydroponics indoors or farm psychoid and toxic potatoes outside in the polluted soil. you can steal pollution stimulus and resistance from any "willing" waster prisoners and implant them in your colonists to make them benefit from pollution. if you get the vampire meeting quest you can turn one of your pawns into a vampire that has total immunity to toxic waste. hussars also have limited genetic toxic immunity but don't expect it to completely negate the risk of dementia or cancer
