Why is milk a dangerous food?
My settlers are dying from food poisoning because they are lactose intolerant.

Because you installed a mod to make milk a dangerous food. If you don't like that don't install such mods.

milk straight from a cow isnt entirely safe IRL either.. Raw milk can carry dangerous bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, Campylobacter, and others that cause foodborne illness, often called “food poisoning.”

Rimworld milk base does actually have the base 2% chance for foodpoisoning. It just doesnt cause the "ate raw food" debuff

<statBases>
<MarketValue>1.9</MarketValue>
<!-- Can be used like meat in recipes -->
<Mass>0.045</Mass>
<MaxHitPoints>60</MaxHitPoints>
<Flammability>0.2</Flammability>
<Nutrition>0.05</Nutrition>
<FoodPoisonChanceFixedHuman>0.02</FoodPoisonChanceFixedHuman>
</statBases>

Copied right out of the core files for animal products.

Vanilla milk isn't "dangerous" though, there is no lactose intolerance and food poisoning isn't lethal. Milk has the same 2% food poisoning chance as all raw food, it's just as safe to eat as raw berries, agave or potatoes.

I just kind of read his post as hes starving because of the fact their puking up everything and the only food he has is milk. food poisoning can be lethal if everyone gets it when you have low food stock.

I don't think that's it, the 2% chance really isn't that significant. Many of my early tribal colonies go up to a year just eating raw rice/fungus, and will use raw berries/agave in caravans most of the game. Colonists eat 2 meals per day, so with a 2% food poisoning chance that's food poisoning once every 25 days on average, it's not an issue, or remotely dangerous.

Pasteurisation doesn't exist in the game so all the milk you drink is lumpy and full of bacteria.

Why raw and not cook it ?

I often pick tribal starts on more extreme maps where there isn't a lot of wood for cooking. Colonists don't get meals until I get electricity in those cases.

i ♥♥♥♥ myself after drinking milk

Well he specifically said lactose intolerant and that isn't anything to do with the vanilla game, so really the only conclusion to draw is mods. Food poisoning is definitely nasty however. I wouldn't gamble even with the 2 percent risk if I could avoid it. Insect jelly is to be sold rather than eaten...

I never had a colonist die because of food poisoning; the pawn will just puke all over the place. If anything its lethal toward the floor lol

Well it always drove them into insanity and made them blindly wander to the nearby insectoid nest (with insect jelly) and they would quickly get torn to shreds.

they can die of food poisoning induced starvation if you're super low on food when they get it, which is probably what folks mean
