Ok, I had no stockpile in their room, doing it now thanks!
i did not know that, I build a 8x8 room for them and put a stockpile in that only allowed kibble and hay, but I never got the resources in time and the bull died, so a killed the cos to get some meat and hide. So you saying I can have an outside paddock? I'll check here tomorrow, need sleep now.
Oh, my.
Yes! Absolutely you can (and should) allow them outside. That's what the Fence is for.
(you used to be able to just zone them, but now you have to build a pen)
You have your colonists build a decent-sized area (fenced in), and add a gate for them to bring any new animals in. And also add a sign (which allows control of what animals are allowed in that pen/paddock).
The sign will even tell you the ratio of that herd's consumption versus the plant growth. If growth is higher, you don't have to worry about feeding.
(For a barn, if desired, you'll add an animal flap/door, which allows animals to enter/exit as they please)
Good grief...maybe you should spend less time playing games and a little more time learning how the world works...
That is whyI only use fences when the pen is enclosed wholly within an outer set of walls. Otherwise just use regular walls instead of fencing and you don't need to worry about other animals crossing the fences (fences don't really keep the predators (or many other animals looking to scrounge on your food) from entering the pen and eating food meant only for your domesticated animals.
There are other ways to do it, but walls make it easy, just not as resource cheap as building fences.
I wasn't specifically talking to you, just using your post to point out how can someone be unaware that animals eat grass/plants...
Last time I played was ages ago and I swore the pets would just go eat simple meals or kibble wherever it was stored. I mean it made no sense but I think it used to be that way.
Potato is a plant.
