What do Commissars actually do?

They have no ability you can activate, they emit no aura, they don't interfere in social fights or mental breakdowns. What are they supposed to be doing?

I'm guessing you added a commissar to your ideology through dev edit and not by taking the Nationalist meme (from the Vanilla Ideology Expanded mod), because they do have an ability... you just need the correct meme. Adding the role by itself does nothing.

The Commissar ability is to execute one of your pawns (for insubordination or something like that. All other surviving pawns get a +20 mood boost for 30 days.

Recruit a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ prisoner and then execute them for 30 day mood boost, got it.

Sorry for the necro on this, however there is a workaround. (if you still care for it.) but if you dev'ed your ideology and still with for them to have the ability. use the dev mode's actions/tools and use "Give ability" and then just select the "Enforce Compliance" ability, then click on your colonist that you made a commisar; they'll now have the ability.

idk what you guys r doing, but my commisars always have the ability to execute pawns when i add them to my ideo. maybe you're missing some important block in your mod builds...? character editor, faction control, that basic stuff?

*please be aware that "prisoner recreation" might be conflicting with "prisoner commons" under certain circumstances and it probably ruins savegames to kick 1 of them out later, so choose if you want them to have separated bathrooms ("DUB's bad hygiene") from their cells or watch tv at all
