How many pawns do you generally have?
I stop at 10 even that causes my computer to start stuttering(prisoners random animals trade caravans don't help that problem either)

Currently at 30 pawns, with 200+ animals and around 80+ mech, no problem with speed 1 but above that start stuttering.

30-40 pawns, around 50-100 animals.
Game significantly slowing down, but it's ok.

^ this is also my current answer.
...surprisingly though, I'm on a computer that was considered "Budget tier" (AMD) when I built it in 2012, but I'm not stuttering at all on regular speed. I give most of the credit there to "Performance Optimizer" stacked right in front of Rocketman.

I'm at 92 pawns, 47 prisoners and... sorry, I really don't want to try counting all these animals... There are literally hundreds of Fennec Foxes, I let them breed completely out of control because they are too cute to kill.

8-12 give or take. I usually don't go overboard on animals, a couple horses for caravans and that's usually it. Sometimes I'll add a few more pawns if they have good traits and passions that compliment or fill in gaps. I usually won't say no to a soldier that hauls and cleans.
sometimes i'll run a colony until i have so many pawns it starts to become borderline unplayable

i've only given up on a save once tho at about 140-ish pawns because raids just nuked my PC and it got old after 25 in game years

As many as my CPU can do without going below ~120 TPS.

Currently with 20 pawns, 60 animals and 20 Mechs (and a fricking huge base) I get around 240-300 so I still have a bit headroom but I Plan do at least double my pawns soon™

Depends on the size of the map I choose. The two mid options I can run around 20-35 with little issue.

300x300 and higher, I stay under 20 pawns. The lag can kick in hard with more than 20 as I move from mid to late game due to all the things that are being done throughout the colony.

I never bother with the two smallest map sizes. That's not fun to me.

120 TPS, you say? a true luxury in these well populated times

on my last old pc it would really stutter when i had lots of animals especially. I recently upgraded to a modern pc using mid tier amd cpu and gpu and now I can run sometime like 60 pawns with 50 guests and high numbers of animals and stilll not really stutter very much.

I don't really try to limit pawns , but i definitely try to limit animals. I regularly slaugther/sell my animals so they don't eventually spiral out of control and slow down my pc

you can play rimworld on an old pc, but if you get a new pc then you can have much larger amount of colonists and animals and still have great performance (esp at 1x)

indeed, AMD has really come a long ways since the days it was collectively mocked for its Athlons and "Bulldozers"

True but just 1x speed is... a bit too slow now. I am old, I could die any moment now, no time to waste xD

True, they very much so closed the gap to intel without a doubt. And it is good for us customers as well because competition increases advancements and lowers prices.

That being said, with rocket lake and my shiny new 13700k I once again choose an intel simply due to better single core speed for stuff like Rimworld or Stellaris. It by far is not that important anymore and the 7950X is excellent as well but.... Still xD

25-50 per base
Henry of Skalitz Mar 7, 2023 @ 2:05pm
I usually have like 20 by the late game.
