RimWorld

RimWorld

How to not get bored
I always start a game but I never finish any. Is there a reason to play through the mid game?

Doing any activity without purpose will eventually burn you out, including playing RimWorld. I recommend setting goals for yourself, even if it's as basic as building a rocket and leaving the planet.

You could also try upping the difficulty, or continuing to play even if one or several valuable colonists were lost. I've seen some YouTubers and people on these forums mentioned that they stopped playing because of the latter, and even though that's their decision, RimWorld in my opinion— is best played if you see it as a story of the colony rather than just one or two people. Otherwise, virtually most of your runs will prematurely end because your favorite character died from a Flu or a brainshot.

Set a goal for your gameplay activities that is something other than "Survival" or "Win."

Building an interesting/cool/fun base is generally the prime candidate for a player-goal. There may be some other goals you can work with in the DLC and there are certainly many mods out there to choose from to add new things for you to work towards as well.

Most players don't finish the game all the way through to the victory conditions. For myself, if I'm in a Rimworld mood, I'll play until I think up something cool to do that may be easier/better/funnerer to do in a new start than my current game.

Yeah, what they said. And if you don't have goals, download them. Plenty of lategame content mods out there that justify sticking with your colony to get there

Define "finish". Like Minecraft, the "story" or "ending" is more up to the player than the creators of the game. Like others have said, and will say to this question whenever it comes up, set a goal you want to reach.

For example, my latest play through, my goal was to eradicate all civilization on the planet except my colony. I have achieved that goal in principle since no other faction can stand up to me, including the Empire. I don't need to actually clear every base on the map at this point. I've "won" this save.

My next save I'm heavily considering the new Vanilla Factions Expanded: Empire mod and reaching the final quest of that mod. It'll be the first time in almost 2300 hours that I've planned to reach an ending that I didn't create for myself.

Many of the "best" games out there... the best part of the best game is the beginning. All the possibilities.. all the choices.. all the dice to toss! Land to mine/explore/tame. And then the midgame kicks in.. and you lose your "vision" because it's a fully functional ant colony. You're just waiting for the anteater/dice to come back to eat 'em up...

Yea Civ#.. I'm lookin' at you. You know everything past gunpowder is just ... iterative blah.

Also. Different new game.

If you get sick of the map and want to end, start dev mode and build a ship instantly and for free then activate it.

That seems like a really really really long way of just starting a new game. ;)
