RimWorld is slowly turning into Sims Expansions model, following EA pricing model
I don't intend on going into detail here, the short story is Sims has a history of releasing MANY expansions, typically 'adding' to the original experience, but holding the price for long periods of time, then placing some Expansions into bundles, but not quite the correct combination, keeping the 'Good' or most selling ones behind their single-price deal all the time.

It's all in the effort of gradually adding up prices, which is what Rimworld is slowly becoming here. You buy the base full price (~$40) then buy your first expansion (~$30=$70) and you see they upped their game in a lack luster area and BAM! Another expansion (~$30=$100), then they go even fancier than the previous ones, changing the whole game! (~$30=$130).

In-between, sales don't reduce the prices enough, no bundles, no discounts for long term players, and DLCs change the Modding landscape enough that it slowly stops being fun.

Edit: Just leaving a note, I looked back on my purchases of the last 2 DLCs, yes they were in 2021 & 2022, I believe I had been waiting for atleast a bundle to come out between them, but not my point here. The price I purchased both separate was $28.95, meaning the 'news' is inaccurate for AUD and has reduced by a whopping $1 instead of $2; Additionally I checked their Sale History, the lowest recorded price was 10% sale over 2 years Royalty & 1 year Ideology, meaning a sale of probs $2.50. Aight, Peace out.

If a game isn't fun or you disagree with that company's policies don't play it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I mean if the British tax your tea and you think it's too expensive, just don't buy it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I mean I think we all know this thread is bait. But yes, multiple developers use a similar principle, continue developing the same game for a long time and use DLC to fund that development, making each DLC optional so people can grab just what they want and always benefit from the free core updates. Yes, it's great. Yes, it's better than them releasing a "new" game every year with slightly different graphics/mechanics and charging full price for it.

You have pointed out a problem that you have with RimWorld. What would you like to see instead? Do you want discounts for "long-term" players? What is a "long-term player" and who do you piss off by giving certain people discounts? You want Bundles? How much of a discount do you want? What is your fair price for RimWorld and all of it's DLC? Do you want no DLC? Do you want free DLC? Free updates?

Well, this looks great to me. I guess this is just a conflict of opposing opinions. In my opinion, as a veteran player of '''The Sims 2 and 3''', Rimworld caught my attention mainly for its '''needs''' system, and then I already fell in love with being able to build your bases , being able to travel around the planet, defend yourself, psychic powers, realism, etc... If all the expansions are equally good, I am delighted that Rimwolrd put 100 expansions, because it is much better to pay for this that offers you thousands of hours, than pay $70 every year for a Call of Duty that doesn't innovate at all and give you 4 hours of campaign. What's more, I dare say that Rimworld is a 2D evolution of the Sims and it's much better.

Rimworld + Expansions >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sims 2, Sims 3 and Sims 4 expansions.

But what if George and friends decide to take arms?

I wouldn't say a dlc every 1.5 years is a Sim's monetization model. Pretty sure it hasn't been 64 years since Sims 4 came out

Come back to this once RimWorld has 30+ expansions. In 43-ish years.

Not drinking tea means the British can tax as much as they want.

I think you're forgetting Rimworld's massive amount of engine reworks and free content each DLC provides. There is a whole lot more than what you see on the face of things.

"Slowly" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.
St3amfails Feb 19, 2023 @ 5:19am
so a better plan? no expansions? or are you just crying because the devs owe it to you to work for free? Some peoples kids man...

With the number of excellent free and vanilla compatible mods this game has, you have absolutely no reason to feel forced to buy expansions, so I don't see how their business model can be a problem.
