Is it just me, or are Sanguophages... kinda worthless?
I mean, sure, sanguophages have some amazing genes, especially the archite ones, and I don't mind Hemogenic, -2 hemogen per day, when a hemogen pack gives +20 is not bad. The problem? Hemogen drain. This one gene single-handedly makes sanguophages essentially worthless for me. Honestly, I would not mind if there were, like, two variants of sanguophages, one with hemogen drain and more good genes, one without hemogen drain and with less good genes. Okay, I think I should explain why I hate hemogen drain so much. -40% of total blood volume is a lot to cause to one of your colonists, and it leaves them very vulnreable to any injuries that cause blood loss. Now, you might say "but you can just extract the packs from prisoners", and that's true, belive me, I thought about it, but my defense usually leaves, like, one or two people alive after any given raid. Two people would be enough to feed any sanguophage indefinately, but now there's a risk of prison breaks, which the aforementioned prisoners may die in, and if I got just one prisoner, a 40% blood loss recovers in about 3 days, while a standard sanguophage can consume that hemogen pack for just two days worth of hemogen.

Also, yes, I know you can just extract all of sanguophage's organs and they'll remain alive, but my current colony has an ideology preventing organ harvest.

If there's something I missed, or some maths I did wrong, please let me know, I have an otherwise amazing sanguophage as prisoner in my colony right now and I'd love to recruit her.

There is nothing wrong with having only a handful of Sanguophages and the rest normal colonists. They are great in the back line (just in case fire breaks out) and using them as very rapid medics. If you only have two or so in a decent colony, it is easy to keep them supplied with blood. At night when everyone is sleeping have a doctor or two just do a quick blood pack operation on everyone, and have a minor debuff for a few hours. Draining prisoners is useful but not needed.

EDIT: They have some insanely good genes you can harvest.

I JUST got a Vampire lord dude as a prisoner also and I'm pretty excited. They seem very strong and best of all, unique (5 powers too).

I assume I'm gonna need to recruit 1 guy that does nothing but provide him blood

Well, as a person who now sees the value of Sanguophages (kinda), better grab a prisoner to provide him hemogen packs. I have three people with the Dead Calm xenogerm in my prison who provide my Sanguophage blood, and I'll say, if you just want to have a 'phage, one would be enough, two for safety, three for deathrest machines and/or powers.

Deathrest is the hidden power of the Sang's. Serious boosts to move speed and psy power makes them able to go invisible, get near a raid, throw a couple berserk pulses, and get out or get into melee before the invisibility breaks, you just need the max number of deathrest buildings (you can ignore the ones that add max blood capacity or blood gain rate, they are a lot less useful then the others).

Properly buffed and used, they can pretty much take out a human raid all by them self.

Yep, one prisoner per Sanguophage, or 1 prisoner per 5 bloodfeeders without hemogen drain. Double that to start using deathrest buildings, and triple it if you are using 10+ deathrest buildings per bloodfeeder.

I have found that the raids get big enough for there to be always a few potential prisoners. Just grab them, harvest a few genes, organs, and blood packs, then send them to the brain ripper to turn them into mechs. They never spend enough time in jail to consider breaking out.

But I do put them into a "luxury" jail to maximise the amount of time they are "happy" prisoners.

I always liked to create my "main" pawn with some base immortality genes, but removing need for deathbed and the whole hemo thing. Yea, it dont have any of these fancy active abilities or ussual strengths, but doesnt have its weaknesses either.

Also posibility of self-respawn after week of "inspecting floor" when playing solo pawn colony is good when i get my ass kicked.

Remove the legs of your prisoner by giving them peg legs, then remove the peg legs, and they wont be able to walk, then you can make it so they are hemogen farmed and they wont be able to revolt or fight back. All you gotta do is feed them :)
