Use the raid points chart on the wiki to get an idea of what kind of effect wealth has on things:
https://rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Raid_points
A masterwork small wood sculpture is only worth like 250 silver, which adds like 0.5 raid points on 100% scaling, double that for large sculptures, and most weak enemies are in the 50-60 raid point range.
Barracks are overall very strong and very efficient not only wealth-wise, but also productivity-wise. That being said, in most of my colonies I make individual bedrooms, at least for like the leaders and such. I want my pawns to be comfortable.
Then I will have 3-wide passages on both sides (if possible) and a backdoor out of each room. And then I will assign the 'best' rooms to the best fighters, where best is defined by closest to the nexus of operations. Mind you, there's all kindsa crap in my hallways... neurochargers, tables/chairs, shelves. But again, the idea is to spread the mats around a bit... so they're not concentrated in any one area other than the nexus, which should theoretically also have good chances of having your best fighters around it.
There's any number of things I do when I'm playing thru a colony, some of them terribly inefficient. For me, unless I specifically started a playthru with barracks as a "thing I do this time"... I will revert to my default 'inefficient' model that's pretty much been my go to since 1.0, and my bedrooms could totally be more efficient. Shrug.
Most of the time, I keep my pawns wearing 'lite' combat gear, helmets, vests and good dusters outta devilstrand, etc. I'll keep the heavy armor in someone's room... 'cuz again, if I need it bad enough to use it, then it doesn't matter if it wakes someone up.
Anyway, I very rarely see a disturbed sleep that I didn't cause. Especially if you go transhuman, your pawns are up and down all time... and apparently high-quality beds will shorten sleep times as well. So my best pawns get the best rooms.
BTW, I'm a big fan of the smooth rock walls. Takes a bit more time, everything looks so great once it's done. And the walls are very strong that way.
1) Space ~1/3 of base
2) Massive heating/air conditioning
But I always get them for role playing reasons. 5x5 is enough for very impressive bedroom with masterwork marble sculpture and impressive with good sculpture.
If you don't put in dresser/end table, 4x5 is peak efficiency with just bed and sculpture for same impressiveness as 5x5, but they look ugly as hell
