Report a translation problem
I recall a past colony location... it was a mountain tile (which admittedly seems to worsen this general problem). It was just off the road, one tile away (road north, base south). My base was on the north side of my map, built into the mountain. So when I would form a caravan, I would set my pastures to clear all. And at like 4am when my animals are all sleeping/gathered, rope them up onto the caravan spot. 6am comes and officially start the caravan load, etc.
Eventually by 12-15ish they'd have things loaded and start moving of the spot. Sigh. And they'd slowly pull their animals to the farthest corner in the southeast (literally couldn't pick a longer path to the edge of the map)... finally exit the map.
And the first thing they'd do is sleep, 'cuz it's late at that point. Wake up the next day, only to realize they'd left to the southeast, and the road was north. So they'd circle around my settlement (the long way of course)... to finally hit the road tile that's literally next to my colony. Sigh.
I even recall once they'd gotten ambushed in that period before they'd even made it to the road. If they'd just gone west to begin with, they'd been off my map in half the time, and then shave another half day by not walking around the settlement...
